I've seen where a few of you guys have modified your trusses to accommodate a Bendpak lift.
A lift is honestly a few years out for me, however I am looking to insulate and heat my garage next summer and want to "plumb in" anything that I expect to be needing/wanting while the walls and rafters are still exposed.
I have Fink trusses (aka. "W trusses") spaced approximately 16 inches apart (my guess, I'd need to measure to be sure) so there is a nice area where, if I removed the joists, a car could fit up into. On top of that, I have 13ft ceilings so with my Jeep on the lift, I won't need to go too high into the ceiling but would like to be able to stand under it.
Some factors are that I am in Northern WI so think lots of snow. I would also like to put a partial flooring for storing things in the attic space so a large bulge up will take away from that storage. The garage is 30x32.
What am I looking at by removing 4 or so joists? How big of an opening should I make to accommodate the most cars/trucks?
I found this resource about how to frame it: http://www.renovation-headquarters.com/ceiling-floor-entry.html
