Some of this mental ************ is self reflective. It gets me to thinking about several pieces of equipment we serviced and modified over the years, I do some forensic and have repaired a lot of fuk ups. I ran across a piece of equipment on a farm a while back got a shock from. For giggles I looked at the panel and it was bonded and I could see the factory cord installed and it turns out someone modified a switch in a cord they were using.
He had made 2 such devices, should have used a power strip for less than the cost of making a dangerous lethal part. I kind of know all my own equipment and need to outright replace a heater or 2 I went around the tstat in some piece that looked like a wonderful idea when new and we cant bear to throw away and get a new chore heater. Its all numbers, that don't always work out either.
We try to keep the errors and designs pretty close to the people that invented or built it and to not leave some ambush cobble in the middle for the next service or owners. 12/3 is harder to come by, I am going to change a feed wire to a custom bench we built and in another situation have about 4 more circuits to add gfci to.
I am going to change out a fused disconnect for a panel on a piece we built way back in the day, its somewhat small risk as it is but its not right and we can move the controls under some smaller short circuit protection than they are, I avoided using a small part of it due to the fact it isn't really legal, instead of repairing it just didn't use it.
I could spend a week if I wanted doing honeydoos still on an electric list from 3 generations, I got most of it weeded out.
