Modine HDS45 Venting Question

Hello,

I'm about to purchase a sealed combustion Modine Hot Dawg (45000BTU) for my 830 SQFT garage. I've calculated my heat loss with help of this website.

My question is with the venting, the manual for the sealed combustion states the vent needs to slope downward to exit. Where if you look up the manual for non sealed combustion, it states you can slope the vent downward OR upward so long as you install a condensate tee trap (which I plan to do).

I'd like to install my vent upward to avoid core drilling my poured foundation, has anyone else with a Modine sealed combustion (HDS) sloped their horizontal vent pipe upward?

Note: I did email Modine, but they haven't replied

Thanks!

Emailed my local code official and to no surprise he offered no help. "Just follow the installation instructions and there's no problem". Basically what I expected, but I tried.

Called Modine since they weren't replying to emails. I asked why does the unsealed hot dawg permit upward slope but the sealed hot dawg does not? "Just follow the instructions sir".

I can understand a sealed unit generating more condensate hence why they only show it with a downward slope, but I have to imagine that there's no problem so long as I install a condensate tee and plumb that to a nearby drain. Their Effinity heater instructions has a similar detail. So I have three choices 1) buy the Modine hds45 and go rogue and install it how I want and not per the directions
2) go with another manufacturer that shows the detail I'm looking for
3) go electric

Not really looking for any help at this point just venting![emoji23]
