wanting to purchase a Nat gas ceiling heater for my garage build, pro's / cons of Modine or Mr Heater? . I can get either one for about the same price , just wondering if there's a reason to go with one over the other

thanks

I have a mr heater, it's been great. They sell them everywhere so parts are easy to come by. I don't have any experience with the modine

How can you get them for the same price? I am also looking at both of them and seems the modine is almost $200 more.

Who has the best price on the modine?

I'd go for the Modine Hot Dawg in your situation since you've got wholesale connection to get better pricing.

Modine is among the top 3 brands including Reznor and Sterling.

I consider Mr Heater and lower tier brand, compared to those top 3.

I just put in a Hot Dawg that I ordered from djsonline.com. It shipped the same day I ordered and was the best price I found.

Reznor, Modine, or Sterling if you want trouble free heat. Mr. Heater if you want to learn to troubleshoot and work on a garage heater.

So I'm in the same situation right now, and it looks like I can get a Modine, a Mr. Heater, or an ADP all for around $700-$800 and I know sweet f**k-all about HVAC stuff. I've pretty much knocked Mr. Heater out of the running, but anyone have input on Modine vs. ADP?

Thanks!

EDIT: I should mention that in my garage I will be working on motorcycles and small engines (there may be gas vapors), there will be an oxy-acetylene setup, and other possible flammables such as paint and cleaners. (from what I understand I should be going with a sealed combustion unit?)

I went with MR Heater 50k BTU from Princes Auto. It was $200 off so I ended up paying $500 for it. A friend a work has the same heater and hasn't had any problems with it.

It may depend on the size of your garage, natural venting you have and how much you plan to paint/clean etc... The SC heaters are a safer bet but not always needed. Doubtfull you will acumulate enough vapors to blow the place up as you would most likely be asphxiated well before that.

I use paint, cleaners, weld etc.. but not in excess but I also have a cheap clean air filter system.
Don't discount the Mr. Heaters. A "large" majority of GJ members own them and have had good luck with them, me being one.

Ive has a Modine HDS in my garage for almost 9 years. I went with the HDS over the HD because I paint stuff out in my garage during the winter and I didnt want any issues. Exhaust goes up through the roof, intake comes in directly behind the unit through the side wall. When I first got it the circuit board had an issue but Modine sent me another one and it was fine after that.

Get a beacon Morris from Menard's. A ng ones $600. It's a rebadged sterrling made in the USA. It's better then the entry model modine because it can use outside air which is good if your painting or using a lot of chemicals.

Menards had the Mr. Heater on sale - 45k I think. It was 373 before tax with the 11% rebate. Ended up buying the Beacon Morris though for 470 after rebate.
