my shop is a little smaller.. 28X40X12.. Spray foam walls , R 50 blown in attic... I have a modine 80,000 btu unit.. Works fine, probably more then I really need. Takes the shop from 40 to 60 in 20 minutes.

Location , Ontario, could of hours drive north of Toronto

My garage is 24X36 with R-19 in the walls and R-30 in the ceiling. I live in southeast Wisconsin. I have a Hot Dawg 60,000 BTU natural gas modine type heater mounted on the ceiling. I turn the temperature down to 50 degrees when I am not working out there. Depending on how cold and how windy it is outside the heater is capable of warming the space up to 70 degrees somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes.

I have 36x48x14 with the same sidewall insulation and a little less in the ceiling. I heat it with a Reznor 100,000 BTU natural gas unit and it works just fine. I have another building that is 40x60x14 and that also has a 100,000 BTU unit and it works well, too.
I am in western NY and it gets cold here. Maybe not as cold for as long as your location, but cold enough to make me bring in the brass monkey.
