Hi guys,

Garage was put up in mid dec 2008. got the electrical heating insualtion and drywall done now am almost finished mudding and taping and will be painting.

Next step Modular Cabinets. I am leaning towards a local company here in Calgary Alberta http://hayleycabinets.com/ BUT I will be attending a home and garden show over the week end and various garage stores selling all sorts of cabinets will be there.

I'd like to see some of what you guys have.

Basically what I am looking at is 5 base cabinets with a steel cover making me a work bench 14.3 feet long. if you check out the web site the yellow cab set has the 5 base cab set I am thing of getting. Then I am also looking at 3 upper cabs. I have a window which will be above the bench.

This is quality stuff powder coated, hard ware quality 16 gauge steel.

the yellow and black is what i am shooting for.

so please guys some pics of your upper and cabs this would help me to make my choice for my investment

Very clean and well made. Looks like you could design your own or find something very close to what you want. They do look VERY expensive. But if a guy wants quality, these are the best I've seen.

I like that graphic series is way cool.

I was quoted 8400 cdn. but there maybe some promos at the home and garden show tommorrow plus there will be some other vendors. I will be upfront with these vendors if they want to they can compete for my busness.

What I like about modular set up is that if I move I can take it with me and add other cabinets if I needed too.

Oh one guy here in Calgary quoted me 18000 cdn for three baldhead base cabs and 3 upper cabs for the pro series I just about sh*t myself when I saw that one

Oh and the snap on truck at work had an 8 fy bench on wheels he wanted 13 grand for that one

thanks again in adavance

Hi guys couple of drawings of the cabinets from hayley, The work bench would be the top of the base cabs measuring 14.2 feet long with 5/8 plywood and 12 gauge galvenised steel.

Got a quote from baldhead as well with 15 feet of cabs and bench.

Hayleys local 9500 bucks but if I install drops to 8400 cdn

baldhead 8400 cdn not sure if includes install

waiting for a quote from a local Vault dealer but I have a feeling that one will be pricey for the professional series.

Heres my thread with my cabinets in it . Total investment in my cabinets about $100.00 without the counter tops on them and thata was for paint and supplies . They are old metal Geneva Kitchen cabinets and are quite stout. Scroll through the thread to see the new cabinets.

Rick

Thats one hell of a score on those metal cabinets. I'll look thru some of the local used sites here. If I could find a bunch of sturdy metal cabs I'd go for it.

I am a heavy duty mech by trade. I have tools from everywhere mac, snap on sears, fuller canadian tire etc etc etc, my favorite tools are my sears wrachets my mom got me when i was 19 and never broke so i use em on the job. And I like my canadian tire maimum wreches. All are good tools but most are way over priced. So i want some good sturdy cabs to throw a diffy or ****** up on it.
And those metal cabs you got would prolly do the trick. If I buy em it will be only once for the rest of my life and modular means add or remove when you move into a different place

BTW that rezor is still kicking ***....

Jay good to hear on the heater . I placed a wanted add on my local craigslist got no response for 3 weeks then got an email from a guy who said he had 14' worth of them if I wanted them . He didnt bother to tell me it was 14' stacked 3 high :D. I still have cabinets to paint and figure out where to put up and its been almost 2 years :D. I made my counter tops out of 2X6's and 3/4" plywood I plan to someday wrap them in metal but havent gotten that far yet :D.

Also last week end picked up a used 97 L31 votrec 350 to build and stick in the iroc and yesterday picked up an engine stand.

Jay I am actually about to embark on completely redoing my garage . When I first put the cabinets in I didnt happen to think about the fact my garage is barely 21' deep and I put cabinets along the back wall . I have since figured out that my 63 ford unibody truck I want to restomod is 18' long and wont fit in the garage LOL. I am planning to move all of my cabinets to the sides of the garage and while I am at it I am switching the corner my compresor is in aaaaaaaaand also running copper airlines and hanging the 2 air hose reels I picked up durring the Lowes Airhose reel giveaway recently :D. I wil be updating my thread as I get things done and hope to be done with the remodel within a month before Airconditioning season kicks in and I wont have time to play in the shop much :D. I have been quite happy with the metal kitchen cabinets they are quite sturdy and I painted them with Tractor and implement paint from Tractor supply and the paint has held up quite well they still shine real nice with a simple whipedown to get the dust off of them :D.

hey rick

when i had my garage planned out with the builder I went 22 wide and 24 deep with the 88 iroc camaro in there is 7 ft of space to my back wall and a few feet to the side, with the wifes dodge grand caravan parked in there it has 6 feet of space to the back wall providing she learns how to park plus a few feet to the side wall. both cars are parked in there all the time and once I get orginsed I should be able to walk around and do what ever.

I can't wait to get a compressor I have it planned where I want it and set up a 240 volt 30 am circuit for the bad boy I want to get. Also got another 240 volt 40 amp circuit for a couple of welders I'll pick up.

I think I will do the same and post up a thread of all the stuff I did.

Man I love my new garage just get out of the house work on cars or the garage itself and blast the tunes......

Thanks Guys

Well the wife and I were talking colors she said the yellow was too flashy and she liked the black ones. But I told I wanted yellow cuz I like it and that if the color was too dark that it would appear darker in the garage so yellow it is. They do look awsome on the web site and in the show room. They are some solid stuff I pulled the drawer out and gave a few shots with my wieght and was satisfied with the ruggedness. Even the latches and hinges are really well made. Thier under cabinet lights are too expensive at 269 bucks a pop so I already checked out some really nice under cabinet lights at a hard ware store for 20 bucks a pop. Also I plan on puttin 1/16 aluminum check plate back splash and found a good deal thru a friend at 80 bucks a 4 by 8 sheet. but I may wait a bit for that I think I can find better deals on that check plate as this doom and gloom economy grinds on.
Also I took a home improvement loan on the cabs with deffered payment for 6 months and payments of 90 bucks a month and can pay the loan off at anytime with no penalty. Also I can use the reciept for the cabs on my income tax next year for a home improvement deduction.....
And i figured what the hell my first garage lets get done all the way the first time.
Almost finished painting in there and I am really please with the mudding I did

heres the pictures as promised of the new cabinets and work surface.

The work surface is almost quarter inch thick with 5 by 8 sheets glued on the back. I am very impressed by the ruggedness and how well every thing went together.

The base cabs sit on a base called toe kicks and it all looks awsome. Its all level including the top cabs

I put the base together and then I build a 2 by 4 frame about 3/8 of an inch lower than where I wanted my top cabs then I sat my frame on the work surface and then the top cab on the frame. I used cedar wedges to level the top cab and then attached it to the studs. I got that frame idea off this site and thanks to that post it was quite easy.

I did it all my self and it took around 7 hours. That stuff is quite heavy but hey what ever my job is worse.

I am still in the process of organising and putting stuff in places. I will have one top cab and one lower availible for when I build my vortec 350 for my camaro. These cupboards will be for the engine parts and I will have the work surface clear for other projects with the house and the kids

anyways it looks awsome and is sturdy and rugged and there ya go

Thanks guys

Also I forgot to mention that I have two lower cupboards and the tool box with locks, In the cupboards I put al my power tools and my solvents and loc tites and any hazardous or explosive under lock and key. I did that as my kids are still quite young and curious and that no matter how many times you tell em no they still get into things. So I have a little more peace of mind knowing that stuff is locked up and even my wife doesnt know where the keys are LOL

Up date on the cabinets. They are great and have been thru some good abuse IE rebuilding a differential on top on the work surface. They are really sturdy and stand up well.

Really happy with these and may add more later on
