Mohawk 12000# lift??

I am going to look at a Mohawk four post lift tomorrow. The seller says it is a 12000# capacity lift, but didn't know the model number. It was disassembled when they moved to a new shop, so I can't see it working. Mohawk's website doesn't show a four post that small, so it must be an older model. It has the sliding jack base but no jacks.

What should I be looking for, besides obvious damage and severe corrosion?

I should be able to tell if all the major components are there, but what small stuff might have disappeared in the move?

Can all four post lifts be used as portables (free standing) or do they have to be specifically designed for that?

What is the highest I should offer him, it is 100 miles away, and I will need to rent, borrow, or otherwise arrange for a rig long enough to transport it.

This is a link to the operation manual for it, should show all the parts & has measurements & troubleshooting section. As far as price, figure it is heavier duty than about any lift of the same capacity so I'd check for modern lifts in the 15,000 lb range to get an idea of what something with similar specs goes for new & then make the call if it is a fair price being asked.

I would imagine that's a $7000.00 or higher lift.

I don't believe a free standing lift is safe... it should be bolted to the floor. You'll never see a commercial lift that's portable... that lift is pretty heavy and you'd have a hard time moving it around without a forklift or other means anyway.

Ask questions about the parts, reassembly and such. If you are comfortable that everything is there buy it... it would be hard to find a better lift than a Mohawk.
