Mohawk A7 lift

hello again guys
Just curious I have came across a Mohawk lift A7 model from a dealer. If I pick up 1400, if they install 1600. The lift is roughly 20 years old, and after talking to him he said it just came in and he wants to look it over. Before selling it. Is that a decent deal for a lift that old?

Also the heaviest I plan on lifting is a Silverado 1500 crew 4x4, should I have any concern?

A7? Is that their 7,000 LB. lift? What does the Silverado weigh? I bought a used Mohawk 5..6 years ago for $1,500 and I had to install it. The price isn't too bad. The are a well built lift. Mine was 20 years old anyway. Single over head line. For $200 have them install it. Easy decision. Enjoy. You will love it.

Rburk65 thank you for the input. It is a 7000lb lift, and the Silverado that I was talking about is close to 5500-6000 lbs. I was just concerns that I would be pushing the lift hard, granted these lifts are well built this lift is almost 20 years old. I am just seeking advice, and mostly will probly get it.

Seems cheap to me, although I haven't been following prices lately. For what they quoted, have them install it. You'll spend that in materials (anchors, fittings, etc.), aggravation, sweat, worrying, etc.

that is a cheap install...just keep in mind that each arm can only handle ~25% of the load and less so on asymetric, so cutting it kinda close on the slverado, better 10k lift

Humanbeingexpert that has been one thing I am concerned about, I do feel a little better its a Mohawk.

I was hoping that there are people on hear owing this model of aloft would chime in, and give some input. One thing for sure I plan on checking it out in person before pullin the trigger on it.

I looked at a new Mohawk had the salesman come out and we went and looked at a few installs. I wound up buying a Rotary. My maximum lift is a 6200# GMC. The Rotary was used, in like new condition for $1200, and a $300 install price and it had 9k# capacity. The new Mohawk was over $8k when it was all said and done.

The bolts to install a lift will have a retail cost of over $100 from Hilti.

Mohawk sells that it is US made, as is my Rotary, and robust quality, so there is less failure. Well failure is generally a user issue, anything can fail. Rotary and for that matter lots of other name brands are installed in thousands of professional shops across the country, the quality is there as well.

You may have a 1500 series now but you never know when you will have a heavier vehicle to lift. Make sure you account for the future.

It depends, if you want a Mohawk, then get one, just get a big enough one.

I own a Mohawk System 1 that i purchased new last year for 7K. I use it on my F250 Diesel which weights 8650 according to the weight guage. The lift operates so smooth that you wouldnt know a truck is on it. I feel you will be fine with the A7 and since they are fully certified at 1.5 rated load.. you have some wiggle room.. I dont know if i would press it with a much heavier truck.. but if your only working on your then go for it. Word of warning.. You will make new friend quick once the word gets out you have a lift

I own an A7 that is at least 20 years old. I also have a Bendpak and a Ben Pearson. Even thou the A7 is only rated at 7k it is built like a tank. I'm pretty sure it will outlast the the other two by about a hundred years.

I mostly use the A7 to lift cars and small to mid size SUVs. I have lifted some Tahoes and Suburbans when my other lifts were *******. It felt solid with the larger vehicles on it. Make sure you have truck adapters. The A7 is built 10x stronger than my other two lifts.

Yes, your Mohawk will be built like a tank, and I don't think that you will be 'pushing the envelope' with the 7,000# lift. I have a Kuota 4WD 25HP tractor with a front end loader that I used to off load the 'posts' of my used Mohawk from a trailer. The FEL rated at 1,100 I believe. I could not lift one post from the trailer. The post had the arms, lines, pump, tank removed......it was only the post. I had to rev the diesel engine to lift the post an inch off the trailer deck and then my buddy pulled the trailer up and I dragged the post into the pole barn to store it. I cringe when I look at other lifts. As always.....IMO. Buy it!

So I went today to see the lift in person, the A7 it's hard to be leave it's a 7 k lift. It is roughly 23 years old, and came out of my neighboring sheriffs department. The finale coat with a couple things thrown in came exactly 2000 dollars, deliverd, installed, and to fix anything they may find wrong with it. So I am pretty happy right now, can't wait for feb 9. Glad you like your purchase! I am buying a A-7 tomorrow to add to my System 2 (II) that is yet to be installed. Looking forward to having one symmetrical and one Asymmetrical lift in the garage. Can't wait until it is don't and they are installed. Anyone look into, or do, underground lines? I have not poured my concrete yet and could go that route if I wanted to and would be interested in yor opinions

Since it is all apart right now.. maybe take the time to clean it up and put a coat of paint on the arms... once that is done it will look brand new... cant believe its 23 yrs old.. it looks just like my system 1.. guess when a design works, why mess with it.
Also might not be a bad idea to change the pump oil now before you install everything. The newer models use DEXTRON Trans fluid in the pumps.. not sure what the standard was back then.

The dealer is going to wash it, put new labels on, and inspect in for any worn and broken parts. They are installing it for me, but not painting it. Are the arms easy to remove and install? Also I do want to paint the arms, any suggestions on how to approach that?

Also for this older model should I use Dextron, I didn't ask if they are replacing fluid on the lift during install. Is that a easy task, and any suggestions on fluid to use?

He had all the service records. I got it for $3000.00 installed with a 1yr warranty. I asked what the difference was between it and a new 10k lift. He said the paint. He said all they did was get the 9k re certified to compete with the 10k market.

I still have a hard time believing it's a 7000# lift, especially with the thick steel used on it. I defiantly think this is way better built that most of the 10000# out there

I am glad to hear you love your lift. I just bought a 2 year old Mohawk System 1, 10k lift this past weekend and the newer lift actually has a extra piece of metal welded into it so assist in additional vertical support (this is what the local distributor told me anyway). Either way, you bought a Mohawk because you know what they are and what they stand for. Thank you for sharing feedback. I cannot wait to get mine hooked up!!!!

I agree. When I bought my system II, the installer/Uninstaller took a picture of his 9000b ford van full of tools up on the lift and said it didn't even flinch lifting it! Yours being asymmetrical puts more stress on the rear arm, which would weaken the lifting points, however, you are right, they are built like tanks

Agreed, I don't ever see me lifting anything over 7000 pounds though. So I should just be fine then. Once it's installed I will post picks of it.

I hope you really like it. I just missed out on one because I was out of town and the guys son sold it when he was at work for $900 and you could use it before you bought it! Would be nice to have one symmetrical and one asymmetrical

Sorry , but a 20 year old lift for $1400 ?! You can buy a brand new Atlas for $1495 with a warranty . Am I missing something ?
