Moisture Under Rubber Flooring

I use half of my garage as a gym, and use rubber horse mats for flooring. Today, I noticed there was some moisture under parts of them. Is there anything I can do to prevent this, like putting something under the mats?

I believe the moisture cane from water that got in the garage from under the door. I have to move a bunch of equipment before i can determine if areas away from the door are affected.

I got the mats out. It looks like the water came in from two places - under the door, and from a hole in the roof I got with that big storm that hit MD recently.

Is there anything I could do to prevent water from getting under the mats, other than making sure water doesn't get in in the first place?

Raise the mats. you need something to vent from under them. Get a sheet of green plywood, cut it into four inch strips, place strips down on floor about an inch apart. You might need more than one sheet.

Or you can replace that with racedeck floor tiles, the freeflow ones. They vent, so moisture will evaporate.

I would put a garage door threshold under the garage door and Google a product called BARR flash & patch for the roof (until you can fix it).

Swisstrax makes their Ribtrax in a rubber version which would allow moisture to evaporate.

Evidently no one cares that this slab may have a water vaper transmission problem.

Curious if evorvesence is showing on surface of concrete as does mine ??

I'm offering vapor emissions kits for only $12.00 per kit, plus shipping. These are www.vaporgauge.com Calcium chloride test kits (taped plastic tells you nothing)

They are easy to use and have complete instructions on how the use them. I sell these for more than my offer here but feel it important for you guys to know just how much moisture you are dealing with. The only other thing you need is a gram scale or you can mail it back to the company to weigh. Gram scales are really cheap if you don't have one in the kitchen. They suggest using 3 of them for the first 1000 sq. ft. and then 1 for every 1000 after that. Use at least one of them.

I took the customer at his word as to the origin of the problem which is a leak in the roof and under the door. You raise a great point though!

Thanks for the advice! I do have a threshold, but never installed that - I should get on that.

Yes, I beleive the moisutre came from the roof and door. But, it sounds like I should also test for vapor emissions.

I tested my floor with a three kit set I bought at a local concrete products store.

I got 8.5# readings.

Been researching this for months but still havent pulled the trigger because

1) I had/have a structural issue inside the shop with a stairways that I finally came to a conclusion .......and am moving the (direction) of the stairs

2) The shot blasting and/or grinding and treatment products are expensive

3) FYI I may now go the porcelain tile route and bail out on epoxy.........but regardless
still need to stop the water vapor transmission before I apply ANY product to my slab.

Thanks
