So this is more of a general house question but since my house has a garage and this forum seems to always have good info I want to get your opinions.

Just moved into the house a few months ago. Went up into the attic to check for leaks after a recent rain storm and noticed this:

The attic has no lighting and I've only been up there twice since I moved in so I can't remember if that's been there the entire time or not. Its isolated to one area and doesn't look like typical mold but I'm not sure. Almost like it was popcorn ceiling overspray from when the house was originally built. No visible leaks in the attic either and feels pretty dry up there.

Any thoughts?

Does the attic have blown in insulation or batts? Kinda looks like blown in insulation that got shot up on the roof.

I agree it looks like some splatter from something other than typical mold. Have you actually removed some of this for closer inspection?

I have to agree, that is not mold....it is far to dispersed and if it consolidated to one section of your attic....it is not mold.

I have seen salts leach out of pressure treated wood before and look a litle like that but it doesn't explain it on the OSB, that definitely looks like overspray.

All attic mould i have ever seen approx 400 different houses it is black. That is overspray from what i can see in the photos. I do these these types of inspections for a living.
