Monarch Prentiss 223 restore

Picked this guy up last week for $200. It is in great shape, just dirty. Very few markings on it at all.

I'll try and take pictures as I go, looking for someone with a hot tank to speed things up.

Awesome, can't wait to see it. Lots of guys use electrolysis, which is probably what I would try. Or try a radiator shop might have a hot tank option.

BA: remember me mentioning that a lot of Prentiss made vises have a cracked back slide? well here's my Monarch 223 that does have a slight crack so you can see. mine needs to be restored to, but sadly the list is long and it's not at the top to have that done anytime soon.

i can tell you that we made a thread on GJ about electrolysis that you should read and if you are just a little handy you can have that vise of yours clean down to the cast on your own.

here's the link and if you want a suggestion i'd buy a $9 Costco black storage bin with a yellow lid for my tank for that 100 pound vise.

All cleaned up and oiled. Hopefully I will have it on the bench by the weekend.

Did you find the Prentiss Vice Co. stamp under the dynamic jaw?

This looks great. Nice work.

Yes, PV Co was stamped on a few spots. On the end of the handle was also "Oil The Screw".

It's great, everything is in great condition. It will be a shame to use and get it dirty again.

14: use it like a 3rd hand and don't abuse it and it should last you so you can pick which son or nephew or grandson to give it to when the time comes.

you have a good looking vise now to last you forever. go ahead and post a few before and after pictures on the main vise thread when you get time.
