Monitoring Devices

I cannot recall the thread but was was a GJ member here who had some semi crazy way of monitoring with some standard sensor....and he put it on like a bajillon devices to monitor his electricity, doors , etc. Do any of you guys recall that thread. I would use a search via keywords but it ain't happening for me without a good keyword.


I did a look on Amazon. Nothing really caught my eye.
Was wondering if there was a better way to monitor fridge/freezer temps and be alerted if certain thresholds were above a set temp.

Not sure how DIY you want to get with your project. I use Arduinos to monitor various things around the house. Fridge/freezer temps, sauna temp, water flow, sump level, propane tank (1000gal) level. They all share a common hardware footprint, and core program so they are easy to maintain.

All of the nodes are battery powered (rechargeable 3.7V lithium gets almost a year between recharges) and each uses a 2.4 Ghz radio to communicate with a 'Master' controller. The Master is connected to the internet, sends each Nodes sensor data to a cloud database called 'Ubidots'. From there you can set up dashboards to see what you want, and you can see historical data free for 30 days. There are other features and services that require you to pay for, but I've been fine for 3 years or more with their free service.

The real power is the events monitoring where you can set up triggers on any of your variables, and send you an email or SMS when they are tripped.
