It looks like a really smart, easy to use design.
I also can't justify $575 for it. Are they the same price at Sears?

right now they are on sale at my sears for $450, may be cheaper where you are at. Alaska is expensive

I have to say, that is one of the most unique, and impressive new tool box concepts I've seen in ages. I'm not a fan of top boxes at all, other than the small 20" Kennedy classic tech/machinists boxes. that one looks to be well made (16 ga steel! most other boxes are 20 Ga or less...) and very well thought out! it combines the handiness of pegboard racks with the accessibility of a drawer unit.

yup. i have the narower version of it. i like it but like the one you pictured more. i have had it several years with no issues. i also have several of thier other slant front boxes. the toughest boxes out there. one of my smaller ones has logged over 10,000 hours offroad with no cracks or damage and it is fully loaded. most pegs have 2-3 wrenches on them.

The concept is not that new. Brother had one at the ranch over 30 years ago. He liked it because it would ride in the back of the truck and the tools would be there, in place, when it came time to use them. I have one on my wish list.

i can honestly say the pics dont do it any justice, after seeing it in the store i sat there and played with it and looked it over for 15 minutes, thinking about all the space it would save me in my bottom chest

That thought crossed my mind. Sears and HF has shown that if it was made in the past, the patent is done and you can rip it off and make it again as if it was new, which it is to a new generation (Kinda like clothing fashions...). Some of them are nice to see come back some should have been left to history...

Made in china

So are most other boxes that are semi affordable new.

However, this box is SO simple in concept that it would be VERY easy to make for yourself, which is what I'm contemplating. Wood, Diamond plate aluminum, possibly a combination of both... Hmmmm. (Been doing that since I saw this last night) I need to drop by sears tomorrow when everyone else is at work and see one in person...

Thanks to ridestreet for starting the thread!

LG, do you have any pics or a manufacturer so I can search the web? I'm seriously thinking about building one custom to fit the odd width of my 54 five drawer craftsman

Made in china

these are not ripoffs. these are made in china for montezuma. i am not happy about it but i know it is true. i have spoken over the phone with vince koehn who owns montezuma. however, there is a ripoff box made in mexico that is very similar except that the top trays swing out for access to the hanging wrenches. a very clever idea that works well but the craftsmanship and quality of that box as a whole is severely lacking compared to the montezuma. even the made in china boxes. the chinese montezumas actually have more features and seem to be made just as well as the old boxes. j.m.o.p.

Sorry I can't spend that much cash on a Chinese made tool box. It's a shame Montezuma has joined the rest of the companies who care more about profit than this country.
I'll pass. I should write them a letter I was seriously looking at them online and at Sears.com and when I noticed one in my local Sears I was excited since I could actually look at it in person. I actually told the wife I was buying it and I was looking for my Sears card as I checked it out. I moved the cabinet away from the wall and big "MADE IN CHINA" was on the back of the box on the sticker. I pushed it back against the wall and left. It's a shame but I won't support a company that charges American prices for tools made in China.

What an awesome box! This would make a great alternative to a top box or fit nicely on top of a bench. It's a shame they are as pricey as they are or I would consider picking one up.

Mine spent the last summer bolted in the back of my truck. Now it's In the shop. I love it, awesome tool storage but I would really like a 42" roll cab to sit it on for pliers, specialty wrenches, metric (I use that less), specialty tools, etc.

I'll have to contact my brother and see if he still has it. It will be a couple of days if I can.
