Getting REAL close to pulling the trigger on a Tool Vault Elite 72" 17 drawer box, and wanted to get some feedback from folks on it.

From what I'm reading on the website, it's the same as the Montezuma Elite 72", with drawer detents rather than the "raise and release" latches.

Past that, it comes with the stainless top standard, instead of being a $225 add-on for the Montezuma.

Finally, it's available in Black, Blue, Lime Green and Orange, whereas the Montezuma is only Black or Blue.

Really leaning towards the orange - the green in the photos doesn't really appear to pop like the Snap-on Extreme Green, but the orange looks pretty slick.

For the price ($3005), I can't really beat it.

What do you folks think? Anyone have either of these boxes and care to comment? Thoughts on the drawer latches? Detents seem to appeal to me moreso than the latch (I'm assuming these function like the "Griplatch" on the Craftsman boxes?)...

I think that box is absolutely beautiful... and orange is what I'd go with as well.

Do they sell a top box for it? If so, would you get one in the future?

It doesn't appear that they sell a top box in orange or lime green. There does appear to be a black or blue one.

That said, looking at the pricing, $3005 gets me the box to my door with a lift gate. That's 11,296 sq. in. of space.

The 13-drawer top chest is $1917 (with lift gate) for another 7,864 sq. in. of space. I think I'd rather buy a matching roller at that point, instead of the top storage.

Granted, if I went with black or blue, I'd save a couple hundred buy purchasing them together...the blue is nice, but I'm really liking that orange...

I have a coworker that has a montezuma box. Cant remember if its an elite series or not but its a good size box. I would only have two issues with it if it were my box.

1) The top drawer in the bottom box where he has all of sockets/ratchets/extensions will slide out if you happen to even casually brush the toolbox. Not a huge deal but would be a bit of a pet peeve of mine.

2) I dont like how thin the toolbox is, with a topbox on it its almost 'tippy' hasnt come close to tipping as far as i know but just an impression.

That being said i really dont think you can beat it for the price. Been a pretty solid box for him as far as i know.

I hadn't really considered that one - it's only got two of the 50" drawers, and I was really digging the 3 on the Montezuma/Tool Vault boxes.

It does seem to be a rather more burly box - heavier gauge steel and heftier drawer slides...

I'll have to look at it more, but I think the less-hefty boxes are still more than adequate for my needs.

I want the tool vault 72" with hutch and side locker with detent sliders. I like the side locker that is not to wide most SA are 24",vault tool boxes weight less that is a plus for me is easier to move, I have plenty of tools to have weight no way it will tilt. Please take pictures if you get it . I will buy one once i can sell my matco box...any one want a matco box?

I purchased the ToolVault elite a lil over a month ago. I love this box. It really is the best bang for your buck. The drawers feel really solid. My only complaint is that some of the detents don't feel as secure as the others. I have to play around with them. Next year I plan on adding the hutch and at least 1 locker.

I was looking at the Extreme's as well. They are nice and I like the thicker shell, but like you I also prefer to have the third long drawer.

That would be tough to choose... wonder if you could request the shell be built with 16ga on the tool vault.

You can't go wrong with either the Tool Vault or Montezuma. I believe them to be almost exactly the same box, construction-wise. I have the Tool Vault but the 56" version. Love it.

I just emailed them last night, I'll add that to my list of follow-up questions and let you know what I find out.

Call them. They always, in my experience, are ready to talk and answer any questions.

To answer your question. Yes he has the 72" and it does feel slightly tippy to me. Again. Not saying they aren't good boxes. Just wanted to add some insight
