Montezuma Tool Boxes ??

I bought a 36" Snap On roll cab and top box for 3/4 the price of the Montezuma 36" set. I have no experience with Montezuma so I cannot comment on their quality but I can say I came out way ahead rather than buying a new Montezuma box. You can get nice Snap On 56" roll cabs around here anywhere from 800-2000. I think that's a better deal than a Monte or an Extreme.

OMG WISH I WOULD HAVE FOUND THIS THE FIRST DAY I HAVE PLENTY TO SAY. THIS IS NOW APRIL 29TH 2017 AND I BOUGHT ONE OF THESE FROM MENARDS IN FOREST LAKE MINNESOTA FOR MY WORK VAN.
ITS HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE, NOT WORTH BUYING.
FIRST. put box into my work van, no troubles there. Put a tool box on top from corner to corner and the box on top DROPPED INTO THE CENTER OF THE TOP. WHich means its sagging. The metal is thinner then the big companies. I paid over $350.00 for the box and thought what a good deal.
WRONG-The slides BREAK VERY EASY-----GUESS WHAT?
I called the company in 10 months after buying this product on theirs. THIS COMPANY IS FROM CANADA.
I WAS INSIDE OF ONE YEAR WARRANTY----WHAT A SHOCK-----THEY DONT COVER ANY PART THAT IS MOVING!!!
I said what the **** DO YOU COVER? JUST THE BOX---WTF. PAYING 300 FOR A SHELL AND HAVE TO PAY TO REPLACE SLIDES.
WAIT THERES MORE----THEY ARE ON BACK ORDER--WTF--YEAH IM PISSED.
I get online and find the company called QUALITY TOOLS IN THE USA IS DISTRIBUTING THESE BOXES FOR MONTEZUMA.

BUYERS BEWARE---YOU WILL BUY CHEAP THIN METALS, TOOL BOX WITH NO REPLACEMENT SLIDES IN STOCK--WHICH WILL COST YOU OVER $25.00 FOR ONE SET AND PAY FOR SHIPPING ALSO.

I BEEN WAITING FOR A MONTH NOW AND JUST CALLED THIS QUALITY TOOLS AGAIN AND LEFT A NASTY MESSAGE. MY SLIDES WERE PAID FOR AND ON BACK ORDER......TOLD THEM WHY THE HELL YOU SELL JUNK IN THE USA AND DONT HAVE PARTS IN STOCK.
I PAID OVER $350.00 AND JUST FOUND OUT NO WARRANTY ON SLIDES IN FIRST YEAR.
GOING BACK TO BUYING SEARS FOR IN STATE JUNK, DONT BUY CANADIAN.

now i don't have any montezuma square boxes. i do have square boxes from hf, craftsman and home depot. they are what they are.

what i do have from montezuma is 4 of the slant front boxes. three of them, the old usa made and one of them a more than likely imported model. my oldest one is probably one of the first ones made and in lives in the back of my truck. it was rescued from a salvage yard, has been repainted at least 4 times and has probably traveled a few hundred thousand miles. one of the socket pegs finally broke and i will weld it back on. the others have had no issues and 2 of them have seen upwards of 10,000 hrs off road. pretty ****** stuff huh?

i would say the biggest issue is the guy bought the cheapest box he could find thinking it would hold up to road/off road use. can't put that all on the people who made/sold it.

^ Exactly, I don't think there is a warranty for cabinet boxes in mobile use. There is a clause for abnormal use or something like that. Most guys use the CPL slant box, Snap-on road chest or in larger service trucks Proto cabinets.

Side note, It kind of sad when a local guy designs something good like the CPL. Sell lots then gets it made in China. A bigger company buys him out and the service goes downhill, and usually the engineering or innovation stops.

BUT, I also know they've had auctions/sales to liquidate inventory from this location. So maybe they are in Canada now.

I just did a quick google search on Montezuma. All that came up was Montezuma Storage.If you click on contact us, it shows a Canadian head office. Also if you download their catalog it shows a Surrey, BC address on the back cover. It also lists that their customer parts and service center is located in Springfield, Missouri

I have seen the John Deere branded slant boxes and all though expensive, they seemed good quality

I actually live about 90 miles from Montezuma KS and was still working the farming circuit when they first came out with the CPL. It was a great box then and only got better right up until they sold out. Saw one of their early square boxes in a friends shop for years, was a quality unit. There was one of the newer ones in my shop for a while last year, and while it was ok, I wouldn't call it quality unit. The quality before and after the sale do not compare. None of the square boxes have ever been on par with my Epiq. My road box is still a CPL and will be for years to come.

if yours are like mine, virtually any repair needed (which is few) can be made with a grinder, welder or torch.

none of that " i can't find a drawer slide ********"

Lol, never needed any repair. I did pull all the tools out and wash it out with the pressure washer during a pickup switch a couple pickups ago.

They not bad boxes at the price, would say extreme or gaitorbuilt range more interesting cost buys.
As always used truck brand is wiser investment but not always easy find a tidy deal or exactly size/drawers you want . Seen a few of these boxes and in right hands could do a decades service no drama .
