Hi. I just received my 72" toolbox & hutch. Great combo so far,but I can't get the drawers to open. Is there something I'm overlooking?

No. I tried the keys and it doesn't budge. I haven't tried to pull very hard on it. Not trying to break it.

Do you have to lift up on the drawer to "unlatch" them ?

I noticed in one of the reviews for this box that someone mentioned "getting the drawers to open",but it was never mentioned what entailed doing that. It might have as simple as unlocking it. The hutch had some locking tabs on the door that weren't mentioned in the instructions. I just thought maybe this might be something else that wasn't in the instructions.

In case anyone else finds themselves in my shoes,the drawers have very tight detents in them when they're new. Which will make them feel like they're still locked but they aren't.

My Extreme box has the same detent setup. Takes a lot of time, but I removed a few drawers in each bank and greased all of the rubber detents located at the rear of the box. Once these are lubed the drawers open and close smoothly. I also feel the lube will extend the life of the detent since they will slide instead of catching and wearing away at the rubber like material.

I also would add that, if memory serves, they offer a couple different detents, in case you want easier or harder to open drawers. If greasing them doesn't get you to where you want to be, you might try talking to Shannon at Strictly about whether or not there are softer detents available for your box.

I just used wheel bearing grease

Mine came with a second set of detents.
The directions say.

" If you feel it takes too much to pull out the drawers, please replace the back detents of the slides with the provided harder detents."

I like my stock detents with grease.

Tip: make sure you never grind, weld, or use anything around the box that creates dust while the drawers are open. My last Craftsman box I would leave a drawer open from time to time while I was working. The ball bearing slides eventually got the metal dust in them and the drawer slides are real notchy now. I always look around and check that my drawers are closed before i use my grinders and such. You can always clean out the inside of the drawers but the slides are really hard to clean grit out of.
