Anyone have Montgomery Ward Power Kraft tools. I have a set of 1/2" drive deep sockets from 1/2" to 1 1/8" and a set of 3/4" drive from 1" to 1 5/8" with a breaker bar and extension that were purchased in the late 1960s.

A couple from my Powr-Kraft drill press - need to oil it up, but you get the idea...

Great press for light homeowner / amateur use. Runs great.

I have this...

shopwk2005.jpg

It was our drill box with a Montgomery wards drill for as long as I remember. Drill gave up in the mid 70s and was replaced with a fancy Black & Decker until it gave way to a DeWalt 3 years ago. Now it is my 3/8ths drive, American made, name brand, SAE sockets that don't qualify as a set of sockets. I have a few Powr-craft and PowerCraft sockets.

I have a full set of 1/2" drive PowerCraft sockets along with a few extensions that I know were my Dads go to set forever. Never saw a ratchet if he ever had one, but I still have lots of stuff to look through.

I just picked up my first Power-Kraft tool this weekend at the flea market.
3/8" drive ratchet. Comfortable handle and an interesting selector switch. Cost me a buck!:rocker:

That's a Wright-made ratchet. It's rare to find the kind with the dial instead of the normal reverse switch. I also have one of that style with the dial.

Nice! Thanks for the info. Does the 'W' in the part number mean that it was made by Wright?

That I don't know.

I have a Thorsen-made Powr-Kraft ratchet with an "H" in the part number instead of a W. I would think they wouldn't use "H" for Thorsen, but who knows. I haven't compared it to other Thorsen-made Powr-Kraft ratchets to see if they all have the "H" in the part number.

I have a Thorsen made 3/8 drive Metric socket set, in it's original plastic box, as well as a few stray Wright made sockets. All have served me well over the years. Until today I had no clue as to the meaning of the "W" or "H". Thanks

I bought the set in the middle 1970's and the strays at various auctions, flea markets and yard sales.

I believe that the 3/4" drive M W sockets I bought in the late 1960s were made by Bonney or whoever made them for Bonney. The M W sockets stopped at 1 5/8" I completed the set to 2" with Bonney sockets I got in 1974 when the purchasing manager at New Britain cleaned out his samples closet. In the picture there are M W sockets on the top and Bonney on the bottom.

Every now and then I come across some of their stuff. I like the double box ends with the scoop like the Barcalos had.

Very cool. FWIW, I'm quite certain Bonney never contracted out any wrench or socket production.

I just noticed that the breaker bar and the extension have "07" stampet on them. See photo. Could this be a date stamp? I bought them in the late 1960s.

The sockets do not have this stamp.

“07” would be 1970.. the tens and ones place for years are reversed.. I believe the number schema/system originated from Duro-indestro.

Due to the odd spelling of the title of this thread making it difficult for me to find. I started this other thread in 2018.

 oooo that's odd. that's a 77C (1/2" drive) or a 77JC (3/8" drive) re-branded as "Powr Kraft" -
I have never seen a "00" code before.
I have to guess that the "T" stamp on that one unit must be "Thorsen", as that's who made it.

well... send a P/m to the OP @MShaw and see if you can have him correct the misspelled threat title. He was last active in July.

there were/are several threads with goofy titles that make it difficult to find them. some get corrected. others, not so much.
