Montgomery Wards log splitter

Hello;

i have a Montgomery Wards log splitter with a 8 hp 319cc brigs motor its a low profile splitter about a foot or so off the ground and is i think 14 tons i would like any info on Wards splitters since i am unable to find anything online i would like to know who made them pictures manuals anything would help thanks in advance i can post pictures tomorrow if that would help

I had one a couple of years ago. Worked well but it was a backbreaker being so low to the ground.

All the parts looked common, but I didn't put a penney into it for 2 years, except oil in the worn out Briggs. Sold it for what I paid, $250.

What time frame are we talking? Montgomery Wards has made about everything under the sun, or more like put their name on someone else product. I'd be willing to bet it is a re badged unit. :dunno:

I got this one for 50 bucks rebuilt the carb for 22 bucks new hydro lines for 100 and yes that style is a back breaker never understood why they made them so low if you have a picture of yours around I would like to see it want to know if what I have is all original or not thanks

zkling I am sure it is a re badged unit if I would have to guess its a early 80s maybe a late 70's my uncle has a craftsman one that looks very much alike

You can determine the date the engine was mfd from the numbers on the engine. The first 3 sets of numbers will tell you the engine model & type, eg 180123 4567 E8. The next set of numbers will give you the year, month, day, & production line, eg 880321C6. That date would be March 21, 1988 on production line C6. The numbers are usually found on the engine shroud above the spark plug, on a plate over the muffler, or on the valve cover if its OHV.

nuttsgt thanks for the pic but my motor is on the other side of the cylinder k burns the info on the motor is model 190412 type 2939-01 code 84081710
