I didn't want to hijack the recent air tool oil thread, so here's my questions. For those who have used a synthetic air tool oil, have they experienced increased "performance"? Also, I've read about an air tool cleaner, but haven't come across anything as of yet. Any experiences with it?

I work in a metal fabrication shop and use a DA sander (National Detroit DAQ) for most of the day pretty hard. It's my personal tool so I don't mind spending a couple of extra bucks for improved performance/protection. I'm religious about oiling daily and sometimes twice daily depending on how hard I'm running it.....

Ooh, daily is good for some tools (like an impact gun or nailer). Not so for a sander which gets too much continuous operation to be oiled just once a day.
My Dynabrade came with instructions for a specific rate of oil to be applied. It adds up to around one drop of oil EVERY MINUTE of operation.

What I do with my sanders (and a few other air tools that see continuous type service), is install a short swivel whip hose (about 3' long), and an inline oiler at the end of the hose (that way, I don't have the added weight of the oiler in the palm of my hand). I don't want oil in my hoses (except that I don't care about the whip permanently attached to the sander), and anyway, I've heard that compressor end filter/oilers don't work so well, because the oil just ends up coating the inside of your hoses.

It's about $15 per tool of some good insurance for an expensive sander.

Oiled correctly, my Dynabrade Supreme sander is supposed to get around 1000 hours of operation before requiring a tune up.
