That is going to be a challenging cutting project Royce but if you can get close to #1000 that will be a very impressive sight and the perfect companion for the MILLSCOTT vise! I did a little anvil repair once on a #400 anvil and settled on MG 710 for the top. It falls in that medium hard 55-60 range that takes repeated impacts well and doesn't chip. It flows well and slicks off really nice. I just used a hand held belt sander to get it very flat. It held up great and the repairs are still invisible most of the time.

Only downside to it was I only filled in a few torch bites and cleaned up the hardy hole and the repairs stayed shiny when the rest of the top took a light rust one winter. Also it was pretty expensive but I only needed a few rods and didn't check on what a roll would be. Probably some similar product out there too. Ed.

That's some fine cutting there Royce. Easy to see where you would blow through a bottle or two on that job. Even with the track burner that's a pretty deep cut for it not to wander around on you. Clean tip and clean living... Really nice. Ed.

I have cut my share of heavy plate, but never anything 7-1/4" thick.
I have not got it to run as good as i know can be done.
I just tell myself it is a anvil not a turbine!!!!

That is amazing!! I bet you could make a smaller one (like a 300#'er is small...lol) from the drop and sell it to recoop some of your expenses.

Since Forged in Fire has aired everyone wants to get into blacksmithing now, and hipsters have been bucking up good money for anvils. They'd pay a premium for yours.

While the anvil is going to be impressive, I bet what is made out of the leftover pieces will be just as impressive. The edge with all the holes is just screaming to be used.

Got it and the drops hauled home today.
Tried picking the big drop with the skid steer and it was not having any of that, so I had to pull it off the trailer and let gravity unload it.
