We all know the Malco Eagle grip situation.

Obviously Malco made some of them for Snap On, but i just came across these on the Snap On website:

Malco didn't offer those in Eagle grip brand i believe ???

So who has Snap On got these from ? Certainly look like the Eagle grip offering the high polish finish etc.

Ditto, i was glad that plant had opened back up and sad it didnt work out. I understand the usa made pliers are too expensive to work out in the retail world, hardware stores etc with all the cheaper competition, but snap on can make it work . Im excited that they are available !

Interesting. Did they buy the tooling and move it to another SO location?

I can't see how this will work in the original NE plant with a 40 hour work week if they couldn't sell enough to keep that going with just locking pliers- selling under both Malco and SO. The only resolution I could see when Malco died was that if SO bought the tooling and moved it to one of their plants, or moved some of their plier production to the Malco plant. Because they're not going to sell more pliers under just SO than they did under Malco and SO. So there has to be something more going on if it's in the NE plant.

nawwwww... I think I'll stick with my Petersen 4LN and 5LN, thank you.

they were too high from Malco at $52.00. $82 isn't even in the ballpark.

good luck with that, Snap-on.

They'll sell. Although normal peeps would be shocked at spending that much on a set of locking pliers, That price would only nudge a snap on customers weekly truck account bill slightly. :wtf:

Honestly, it doesn’t matter to me whether they bought Malco’s tooling or not. Whatever tooling they are using to produce them, these are clearly Eagle Grip pliers made by SnapOn. The design is identical, they certainly appear to have identical materials, so as long as they perform the same, as I have no doubt they will, does it really matter if these are made on Malco’s old tooling, or SnapOn sourced tooling? I’m just glad to have a USA made option for the future, and I really like the way these look. Yes, I’m a bit of a tool polisher, and take excellent care of my tools, so I like the way my Malco’s look in my tool box, and am happy these will look great too.

I agree. Snap-on has done things like this in the past. Branding then Snap-on will help for sure.

Right now I'm not aware of any other USA made locking pliers. If you have to deal with DOD & Berry Amendment these are a slam dunk.

Snap-on is the only company I know right now making adjustable wrenches in the USA for the same reason.

^ I was not aware we made any adjustables in country any more.

Sure, they'll sell off the Snap-on truck, but not to the average consumer.
I question their ability to continue manufacturing them at the same facility if they are not able to increase net sales on that part of their product line.
Did they move the operations out of Nebraska and up to Kenosha?

Yeah, $82 is crazy, but this is Snap On- the company that sells chrome 1/4" drive metric socket sets for $580 :ROFLMAO: these will sell from SO just fine, like the previous Malco line did. Most SO pliers' cost >$50/pair, some close to $100, so these are in the ballpark of their current offerings. The Malco's were selling for $40ish-50ish each before they were discontinued, so as said, after one warranty exchange, you're ahead of the Malco pricing.

I wish they made adjustable wrenches here. All made in Spain now.

Hopefully Snap-On was able to take over production of the Eagle Grip pliers. I like the Malco made ones I have and I would like to see someone continue to produce them. Pricey, but as long as they can be replaced under warranty when worn out, I can see the price being worth it.

Snap On was already selling the rebranded Malco's for around $65 if I remember correctly. I had two of them.

Snap On already has the data they need to know if they will sell and how much money they spend and make currently on their pliers. Not to mention all the past business with other versions of locking pliers Snap On has sold (GripOn).

It's probably blasphemy around these parts, but I don't use locking pliers and never really have, nor have I ever had an actual need to use them. In fact, I didn't have those Snap On very long but only used one of them because I wanted to, not because I had to. It doesn't matter to anyone but me, price aside, I definitely won't be buying them again.

Interesting. Same design? With all the people private labelling WF, I can't believe another mfg (Klein, Channellock, etc) didn't snap that tooling and design up.

I don't think honestly there is a market for USA adjustable wrenches much anymore. It seems like IMO it's really for government clients.

Snap-on would be the one company I think that could pull off selling expensive adjustable wrenches.

The good imports are more than the USA WF ones were, though.

Granted, there's been a lot of inflation since they were on the shelves.

I posted about the new Snap-on USA adjustables back in May. There was no mention of it on GJ or any other platform that I could find until then. I was aware of the change during the transition before they were released, back in the early part of 2023.
Excerpt from my previous post: "The standard all metal version made in Spain ended in “B”. Those part numbers are now hidden (but still accessible) and they have been discontinued. The latest and current revision ending in “C” are USA made. I believe this to be a fairly recent change that flew under the GJ radar."

The new design is slightly different:

I have one of the last B series ever made, acquired during the transition. Its by far the nicest adjustable I’ve ever had or have seen IRL, like jewelry honestly. Only about 1/32 play in the jaw. I actually like this design better.

Getting back on track, I have Eagle Grips and I’m finding the smooth shiny chrome finish less desirable with oily hands. I prefer the rough satin finish of the Petersens. The Eagle Grips also have considerably larger jaws versus the original which is a blessing and a curse. And why is the adjusting screw so long? :dunno:
