After much research, I finally decided on a Challenger VS-10. I laid out the columns using Rhino Ramps which closely approximate the column size. My garage is 25'3" deep and the ceiling height is 13'0" at the center, and my goal was to put the columns as far back as possible while still allowing room to park (small) cars between them and the overhead door, even if it was "tight." While I never plan to own 5 cars, it doesn't hurt to plan. I also needed to ensure enough room behind them to lift any vehicle up to a large SUV (I don't own one, but friends do).

I had it professionally installed by a skilled local shop. They took their time and did a great job. The lower stops aren't adjusted quite right (from the factory), so they have to come out and re-shim the carriages, but the lift works and I can at least get working on cars now. No comments about the electrical wire - I obviously only set that up as a "quickie" to get the lift running and will re-do it this weekend properly :)

Next up I need to finish electrical, compressor lines, and then get HVAC and insulation installed.

Pictures are not modified or cleaned up - this is just how they came out of the camera so please forgive any bad lighting or contrast, etc.

I'm jealous. Looks great!

Just had a new bendpak installed. Let's just say the product wasn't what I hoped for. Waiting to hear their response to the pictures I sent then I'll post for others.

Nice lift. Is it a wee bit close to the forward wall? Looks as though you couldn't get a pick-up truck on it. Maybe the angle of the photos

Oh geez, that stinks - what happened? I've always heard of great things with Bendpak before. I love this Challenger unit - very beefy. The locks aren't working at the lower levels so the installer has to come back out to fix that, which means removing the entire column (yikes). But since I bought the unit from him he will take care of it.

I almost spec'd a 12 foot ceiling. Glad I went the extra foot or I'd not be able to squeeze that in there. With drywall up, I'll have maybe 4-5" of clearance total.

It does look like that, doesn't it? But, it lifts asymmetrically and I planned the columns about 9 feet from the back wall. A large SUV or truck would be tight, but do-able without a problem. Challenger told me to measure from the driver's seat to the front bumper because that would be about where the columns would sit for a vehicle of that size. I measured out some Suburbans and the like and they were in the 8' range, so while I don't have a ton of room to spare, I can roll my tool cart out of the way and get just about anything up there. Most of my cars are small so they will go up with plenty of room to spare.
