More questions on a Bridgeport Mill

Hi,
Fun never ends. Been going over this Mill and have some more questions.
1)The top 2 pics are of a hole at end of ram. Believe I read their is a hoisting ring that goes in here, maybe 5/8-13 bolt. True/False? If so, what is the array of little holes on the underside. Anybody have or seen and heard of one. I'm sure it's nothing out of Home Depot or Lowe's given unit is 2,000 lbs.
2)Zerk fittings. From what I've read there are suppose to be 2. Bottom pics shows 3.
3)When looking at right upper knee there are 3 threaded holes. What went there, if anything?
4)Since I'm going to take table off for cleaning, any recommendations on 1-shot oiler kits/installation?

Thanks.

Leaky

The hole on the end is NOT for a hoisting ring, but it is used for a Cherrying Head (Google it) It is something that all were designed after but hardly anyone uses one today. You e a threaded bolt on the middle of the ram, and that is used to hoist things. Most just use a set of forks to move a mill though.

The 5/8"-11 hole is for a forged lifting eye. It's how the machines were moved down the production line. Don't use a a cold formed eye bolt from the big box stores as it may open under the weight of the machine.

I've never run a machine with zerks, but bijur makes a one-shot lubricator kit for the Bridgeport.

You know how to adjust gibbs? Make sure you mark where things come from. If your taking the table off, you might find someone to scrape it for you.

I've seen Cherrying Heads before but never used one.

When you Google Cherrying Head, down load the PDF from Sterling Machine Tool out of LA. It's from the 50's and show bunch of attachments for Bridgeports plus the old school power feed and measuring systems.

Broaching head also fits on the back there.

One shot oiling system is a good idea. The one I use has one.

If adjusting the gibs don't go too crazy,

Especially on the knee. I've seen many split and completely stuck knees on bridge ports due to slightly tight gib. (Common issue)

Yea I've never seen a cherrying head in person, but one mill I bought had a broaching head on it. I sold it for more than I paid for the mill.
