I'm going to be pouring concrete next week on my new garage build, and want to get some final advice. The contractor is going to put 2" foam board around the perimeter on the inside of the garage foundation. They will cut the top of the insulation at a 45 degree angle even with the top of the slab and the insulation will extend down 24" below slab grade which will be slightly higher than final soil grade. I live in NE Ohio and was thinking this will be enough to be below frost line. Thoughts?

Another question I have is regarding underslab prep. They plan on 6" of compacted gravel with a vapor barrier and 2" of hardboard insulation which I think is pretty standard. They did discuss using some pea gravel on top of the limestone but under the insulation. Any reason why this would or would not be a good idea?

One final question. I have a wall between the main garage and shop area, would it be better to insulate both sides of this or leave it uninsulated to heat the block wall as well? Here is a pic to get a better idea;

pea gravel is about better drainage and less damage to the vapor barrier, its a great idea .. try putting a chunk of vapor barrier on lime stone and step on it a few times, it doesnt take long to puncture
