Ordered two pair of medium mechanic's gloves online for in-store pick up:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=219437

Picked them up the other day and found that they run really small - too small. So, I figured I'd just take them back and exchange them for two pair in large. Took the gloves back and grabbed two pair of large sized ones off the rack and took them to the counter to do the exchange. Not so fast....

Since I'd paid for them using my PayPal account, the clerk said he had to do a PayPal refund for the mediums and then sell me the large pairs (at the regular price of $14.99 ea).

I said I'll take the refund and you can keep the large pairs. Walked out shaking my head at the stupidity of it all. Sears lost a sale because they wouldn't simply exchange two pair of gloves for two pair of gloves....

I had something similar happen with a saw but refunded and gave me the saw at the sale price even though sale was over. Since I ordered it before midnight deadline I showed them sale price and adjustment made.

paypal had nothing to do with it, its the fact that it was an online order. The systems aren't linked as sears.com is a separate entity.

If they were the same price I probably would of just swapped them on the shelf and walked out with the correct size.

Yes. It's not all Sears fault...I think some people are just starting to outrageously trash talk them nowadays.

Interesting.....the other day I ordered 2 batteries for my drill for in store pickup....when I got them home they worked fine in the drill but wouldn't work in my charger, so I took them back. He said they didn't make those anymore but I found them right on the shelf - so I told him I'd buy the others if he'd sell them for the same price - they were almost $10 each more than the ones I bought online. He said sure, and wrote 'em up.......done deal.

I've run into similar problems. Once ordered a craftsman impact on sears website with $50 off rebate, but needed it soon for work. Counter guy refused to sell me the same impact off the shelf for the online price, so I canceled my order and went elsewhere. Between that and the other counter guy that I always argue with because when I would return something he would give me a sears card instead of cash due to "company policy", I honestly never bought anything in there since. I'm not jumping on the band wagon here, just stating my experiences.

Lol oh no sears is the devil. What the heck was the big deal here. Just get then refunded and buy the large. If you don't like it hide in a box because your asking for way to much from a large store.

How is it not sear's fault? Walmart, sears and anyone else that operates their online site as a separate entity, can eat a bag of dicks. It's a way for them to ensure that you don't get a good deal at their local b&m store.

Just another way to provide ****** customer service.

I don't think sears will be around another 10 yrs anyway.

Sears has their head up their ***....
Should have been an easy deal to swap out the gloves and keep the sale price. That's just good customer service....something that sears dosent seem to know anymore.

Every time I buy something from sears I get the online price in the store. All they ever do is walk to the computer look it up and change it. Never had that problem.

It is not just Sears. It is the age of the computer and the computer tells the people how it has to happen. I bought three 1/4" flex head ratchets for $29.99 each as I assumed my sons would want one each. Well guess what they didn't. So I returned them and they gave me $39.99 back for each one! I pointed out the "error" as the guy got the manager and showed him what happened. The manager looked at me and said I am sorry you have to accept the refund amount as that is what is locked into the computer. This has happened to me at Home Depot and Lowes. I always buy on sale then if I decide that I don't need the item I return it and they give me the regular price refund.

Now before you say this is unethical, I DO NOT do this intentionally and it has only happeded a few times. I always point out the error and the sales person always has said that is what the computer says I have to do!!!
Welcome to the age of the computer!!!

I guess it all depends on the sales clerk? I had to warranty a 8mm craftsman socket a couple of month ago and almost couldn't get it done. The Lady at the tool section looked at the 20 year old cracked socket, and the new 8mm socket I pulled from the shelf to exchange. Since one was laser etched and the old one was engraved, she wouldn't exchange them. She told me they don't sell those old ones anymore. I had to get a floor manager who apparently worked in the tool section before, and told her it was allowed and was an even exchange. Even after that she was nodding her head. I mean wtf? So it depends on the associate you get.

LOL. Didn't pitch a fit and the king has lots of gloves - just trying to pick up a few extra pair at a good price

Sears lost the sale because they wouldn't simply exchange mediums for large. Same gloves - same store - same stock. I even pulled them off the rack for them before I went to the counter.

All they had to do was say yes.

When I asked about the online price, the guy at the counter told me its an "online only" price, he also said he has nothing to do with my online orders and told me if I wanted to cancel it I could but would have to do it myself, then pointed at the computer in the corner. It's not just the tool department, I was once looking for a tv. Every tv less than $800 in price I asked for, the sales guy told me "it's out of stock" or "trust me, you don't want that one". I went to best buy for my purchase and the sales guy over there told me sears works on sales commission, thats why the sales guy at sears wanted me to buy the most expensive one in stock. Oh well, they lost two sales that day. End of rant.

Again, not that simple, the systems are separate. You should of just switched them and left.

I went to best buy for my purchase and the sales guy over there told me sears works on sales commission, thats why the sales guy at sears wanted me to buy the most expensive one in stock.

On the flip side BB employees have their sales performance monitored. Don't sell and you get the boot. Sell a bunch and you get a raise. Extra points if you dump useless service plans on everyone. You really didn't improve your odds of getting a fair deal or unbiased advice ;).

Yes, I know all companies have their way of getting their sales people to sell products, but at least they are willing to sell me what I want instead of lie about not having the lower priced stuff like the sales guy at sears did.

I went through a similar deal with WorseBuy with an LG microwave. It crapped out after a few days. Rather than just exchange it for another identical (but working) model they came up with all sorts of hoops to jump through. After about 20 minutes of getting nowhere with the store drones & a couple of managers I just asked for my $$ back & bought a different brand from Wallyworld.

& yes, I realize I could have taken the $$ & just bought another one at the same store, but they fucked me around so much I was done spending $$ there. Haven't stepped foot in their store since.
