Well, since this thread

My little old Sit 'n' Ride....
DSC00453.jpg

.... has been behaving.

Today, as sort of mid-winter I decided to run it for 1/2 an hour or so to boost the battery. I do this each year & it is advised in the manual. Any ways, it did not start:mad:

This is what happened: (Clicky pic to see)

Not had chance to have a good look yet, not even done a volt check on the battery.... So any ideas from this to point me in the right direction?
Thanks

The sound quality on my speakers as well as my hearing is ****. However it does sound like the starter is running but perhaps the bendix gear on the starter is not engaging the flywheel as well as it should.

Check the valve adjustment. The centrifugal trip/compression release may not be working due to that adjustment. It makes it hard to start the engine. Pull the plug and see if the starter/battery will spin the engine easily. If so, likely it's the valve adjustments.

Take a look at this:

It sounds to me like the starter solenoid is clicking in and out fast. This is because of low battery voltage.

Put a battery charger on it or use jumper cables to start it (be CAREFUL with those jumpers !) You will probably be shopping for a new battery come spring !

^^^^ What he said. Did you try shorting across the solenoid terminals directly? One of the starting problems I've found with lawn tractors is that the safety interlock circuitry (don't get me started on THAT...) has a number of connectors in it and a fairly lengthy run (clutch safety switch, PTO safety switch, etc, etc - all wired in series). As the connectors corrode, voltage drops until you get the clicking solenoid problem.

A quick charge up appears to have sorted that starting issue.... For now anyway.

I had another issue recently.... Cutting blades were reluctant to engage.... However they did after some time 'slipping' I have found that the blade/cutting belt has shredded . Over time this causes excess vibration to is tensioner. The tensioner gave out out and the belt ripped a few bits off before disengaging
Itself!

I have made ( bodged ) a new Tensioner, and after a lot of Internet surfing appear to have identified the belt to an AA86 ! Have ordered one... So fingers crossed I'll soon be whizzing along once more!
