I put down the primer today on my 1946 4" wilton bullet. A couple questions: how many coats of primer should I use? How many coats of actual paint? Should I do anything between coats? Anything between primer and paint? Should 1 can. Of Hammered Verde Green be enough (I have to order online and don't want to have to pay shipping twice)

I've used one coat of each on the vises I've restored. I'm not hard on them, but holding up so far. Naturally the finish won't be perfect forever if you actually use it.

Why did you paint the anvil, are you going to clean it up when you are done?

I would prime it to cover it good then if you want to have a better finish you can lightly sand it with 280-320 then 2 coats of paint should be good

Follow the can directions if you're using a hammered paint. Usually they say something like 2 or 3 light coats, ten minutes apart, followed by a medium thick coat. I would buy an extra can just to be certain of not running out, but verde green was discontinued or something and is expensive. I usually just do a few light coats of primer 10 mins apart.

Spraying hammered paint can be tricky to get the desired finish. Too light of a coat results in no hammered texture, too heavy results in sagging and runs. 1 can will be enough.

Bought two cans from menards last night. I think I may give the primer a light sanding before going back with the paint. Thanks
