I got this vise out of a box in my storage, dont have a clue when or where I even got it originally.

anyone know what the heck it is? besides a Morgan #4 vise? I tried to research it some and that was fruitless.. 4" has anvil on back with hole.

I have not seen Morgan vises like this one, subcontracted production maybe?

Joby: almost every vise company had some variation of that light duty open screw vise. i'm guessing it weighs maybe 15-20 pounds? Morgan vise company has been in the vise business for a long time and is still making vises in the US today for the government. I can't recall exactly when they were started so somebody else will have to comment on that.

if you like it clean it up and use it on a bench, but like I said it's for light duty work. I've seen many a handy guy with a vise similar to that on their workbench as their ONLY vise, but since you have a bigger Parker in the background you might only be asking to see if it's rare or worth something. maybe to a guy collecting Morgan vises because it's not all that common, but that design is and not one i'd be willing to spend much more than $30 for even though I have quite a few Morgan vises.

Joby,

That's a nice find. Reminds me of a Wilton Shop King or a Parker 63 1/2. IMO: With the art deco style, it would look great all restored and setting on a shelf or mantle.

I too was thinking that it looks a lot like a Wilton shop king minus the bling:
