hello all,

joined here because it seemed like you all would be a great source of knowledge and expertise to learn from. I am old enough to know I don't know it all but I want to learn and become a better welder and mechanic. (62 and a disabled Vet, so I have a LOT of time on my hands to learn and read)

I taught myself to weld about 5 yrs ago on a stick welder, and really enjoy it. Its a simple enough process but it remains very tough to become really good at it! I continue to experiment with power settings and metal thickness to see what the optimums are.

I made the mistake of thinking that a wirefeed welder would be a great addition to the shop and ended up absolutely hating that style/method of welding. Try as I might I couldn't find an affection for it and sold it after it sat here for a couple of years and am dedicated to stick welding now.

I appreciate how much work it takes to keep these boards and sites going, thanks to the staff of GarageJournal for all you have done and continue to do to keep it up and running!
