Thought I'd share some pics of my garage build. It is to the point of basic electrical service and am now waiting for finish grading and gravel etc.

Approx. 12 x 30 on one end of the building will be an office, a with shower and toilet, and a kitchenette with sink, small gas range and small fridge.

The are above the office will have a floor for storage. To make the space fully useful, I upgraded to a 6.5/12 roof and had the truss over the area removed. Of course the span now has heavier purlins. This was na upgrade as well.

The garage portion will be used as space to tinker/restore old Jeeps, trucks and to maintain my Kubota tractor etc.

Will post more pictures as I move along if anyone wants to see them.

Some inside shots and concrete pour. No 8 showing where truss is deleted and roof reinforced.

That's funny, crickets, I'm here and I like your pole barn. Odd that nobody else has commented but I'm sure they will all be along soon. Keep up the good work.

Beautiful shop you've got OP . . . . especially like the office on left & shop doors on right!

Curious what your heating/cooling plans might be ??

Is your electrical feed on the right side outer wall ? . . . I'd rather have that in office.

Did you plan for beefed up concrete pads where a LIFT would be installed ?? ;)

Thanks for the comments, very appreciated.

Cajun, Re price my building has many upgrades from a basic 30 x 40 with a 4.5/12 roof and concrete, but what I ended up with is more than 30K. I looked at other metal building manufacturers and once I added all I needed the price was about the same and I would end up with (IMO) a lesser build building and one that did not look nearly as good. If I build another building it will be a Morton. Cheers, Selo

CNG,

Thanks. One option I included was a truss span where the area over my office is open and I plan to install a floor for storage.

The electrical service location was an issue, but in long run with all that was on the other side of the building the extra long wire runs will be less expensive.

The entire building is insulated and I am installing a woodstove in the bay area. The 12 x 30 office will be framed and insulated. Will have a Mitsubishi mini-split for heat and air.

I do not plan to install a lift.

Cheers, Selo

Moe, Stuart, flyin99, and Cangusfarm,

Thanks. I'm attaching a pic of how it looks today. Sorry there is a pile of gravel and balled up tarp in the picture.

Today I am waterproofing the floors.

Cheers,

Selo

I've got a lot left to do. I have yet to connect water to garage and the two hydrants I installed (see pic). I only have basic electrical installed for lights and outlets and doors. I need to build the office/bath/kitchen. Doing the floor waterproofing today. Working on getting the woodstove in next after floor treatment.

Thanks again,

Selo

LXCam,

Thanks.

About half will be to house and maintain my Kubota BX25 and a few other attachments I plan to buy.

The other half will be to refurbish/restore older Jeep CJs. I have had nowhere to work...until now

Office is for some consulting that I do. I'm fortunate to be retired (64 yoa).

Thanks again.

Cheers,

Selo

ctim,

The building was up in a matter of days. MANY delays re slab pour as my building is situated on red clay and we have had rain rain rain. When it rains it makes it very difficult to get in and out of the site. THEN after the pour the dang rain prevented final grading and gravel. I have been a bear about keeping my floor free of red mud.

So I've been at this for several months.

Very nice. Its wild seeing how different the design is on the morton building. Its honestly hard to tell whats going on just from the pictures. Looks like they turned the purlins on their side but one span doesnt have truss? Just band boards and purlins? Putting a lift in that span or something?

Did they use post protectors?

Edit: Just read where it will be an office space with storage above. Nice

Selo, How are the purlins attached to the trusses? Looks like they are all on standing on edge on top of the truss?

JC23, Re how did Morton feel about changing the design re open bay truss setup? Morton suggested it. When I mentioned I hoped to have an interior office space the sales fellow asked "would you like to have the area above your office free of a truss to facilitate storage?" Heck I didn't know you could do that with trusses. They also asked if I would like them to build the office. There is absolutely nothing these people have not encountered it seems. You sit down with them and as you tell them what you would like, they simply click away at the computer entering your wishes down to the smallest detail (like trim color). When you are finished they print out elevations of your building with options shown and a price. Based on price you can add or delete options. I adjusted my options several times. For instance, I'm installing a big woodstove, Morton asked if I wanted them to install the insulated flue. They can do anything it seems. In many cases they hire local contractors to do the specialty work. My garage doors were installed by a local contractor hired by Morton. If I have problems with the doors, I call Morton.

Much of the work I am doing myself...building the office, plumbing, electrical. Some I hired like grading. Morton will handle that too, but I wanted to take care of that.

It all worked good for me.

65cayne,

Re purlins: On the end or outside truss, the 2 x 8 span purlins are notched over the truss to match the spacing for 2 x 4 purlins. A 2 x 6 under the 2 x 8s is used to add support(see pic).

The 2 x 8s on the inside truss are attached to 2 x 4 purlins and also sit on a 2 x 4 attached to the truss (see pic).

BTW light fixtures in pic are temporary.

Cheers,

Selo

Thanks Selo. So the 2x4 purlins on the right half are not notched (like the left side) and just sit on top of the truss?

65cayne,

Yes. On that side the 2 x 8 purlins over the span attach to the 2 x 4 purlins and rest on a 2 x 4 ledger attached to the truss.

Thank you silk560 and ctimrun. I'm working now to get the flue installed for my Vermont Castings Defiant wood stove. I may rebuild the stove.

I love having a place for my toys and my Kubota BX25. I'll keep everyone posted. The BOSS has be working on new shrubbery beds around house for now.
