Hi All,

I think I'll share the process I've gone through with Morton. I continue to be impressed with Morton, which for me with contractors etc is no small thing. If my opinion changes I will let you all know.

So I ordered the building in August. Had several sit downs with Morton at my request. I made changes a time or two...no big deal to Morton. Change orders were processed and adjustments to price were made. Piece of cake. Once my site was graded, which needed a good bit of fill, Morton's site engineer came out and worked with me to stake out my building and for the engineer to make sure the site would be OK for their construction crews and materials delivery. All was good re my site. I later decided to rotate my building and the site engineer came out AGAIN (from an hour away)and restaked the building. Understand, all of these visit are as if it is the most fun the engineer has ever had.

The building components arrived today Nov. 22nd as I was told they would weeks before. I was called at 9 AM to let me know the building components would arrive at 2:30 PM. They arrrived at 2:26 PM.

Site engineer directed all unloading. Since erection would not begin until Dec 2nd., all materials were elevated off the ground and covered with plastic. Site engineer put up signs so dumpster contractor would know where to put the dumpster etc etc etc. To think I considered a highly recommended local contractor whom quoted an inferior building of same size at the same freaking price.

I'll post pictures soon.

Loved my Morton rep all they way up to the point he quoted me $40k more than 3 other builders, at that point I had to move on.

I really liked working with Morton on my building. They have a well thought out system for building. Quality is great and once they get started don't get in their way. They are flexible, they allowed me to take care of the things I wanted to and allowed me to bring in my own subs to take care of the plumbing and electrical. I have zero and I mean zero complaints.

The crew were a great bunch of guys. Very respectful and very hard working.

Good to hear you have had a positive experience to date. My experience so far has been the same as Morton begins my building on December 5th.

My Morton was put up in 1984. Still great. The only thing it needed at age 15 years was the original gutters replaced (steel, rusted, big surprise eh?) It is time to paint the roof though. It's right at the time where the original material is peeking through so I did pretty well there. On the list for next summer.

This originally had double sliding barn doors. Super huge air leaker and not good for winter weather efficiency. This spring I called Morton who had the original prints on hand. The rep came by a couple of times while we measured and pinned down exactly where the door needed to be and other details like the man door. Mine was fine and they don't make the exact replacement any more. The rep warned me some of them don't come out as easy as they go in meaning it might be toast. I had looked over how it was put together and said I will take a chance.

They came in this summer and changed out the complete front of the building with the sliders to a single super insulated gear driven door. The sent the pieces and dumpster a few days ahead of time. My man door was saved though it needs a fresh coat of paint to match up with the new wall.

Crew came in on the first afternoon, fired up their Dewalt boom box, ripped out the old wall and doors, cut it up and put it in the dumpster. Came in the next morning and had the new stuff up in about 6 hours.

Took 2 days longer to get the door guy off his **** even though he knew exactly to the hour it would be ready for the door. Lotta talk, slow action from him. Luckily the door is very good.

I already see a huge improvement in my heating expenses with the single door versus the old leaky sliding doors.

I originally considered doing this myself with the help of some carpenter/construction friends.
Glad that idea lost out. We would have been days and more doing what Morton essentially did in one.

Funny, not funny. It cost more to do the wall and door upgrade than the complete base building cost in 84.

4 FN,

Beautiful. Wish my building was going to have that square footage! Mine is going to be mostly to maintain my small Kubota backhoe/loader, rebuild old Jeeps, and an office for my small business.

Top tier operation. They built mine on slab and foundation. One of the employees on my job had been with them for 30 years. That says something about the company to me. I have been very happy with it.
