I will be having Morton coming out to give me a bid on a 30x30 tomorow. Have heard good things about them so hopefully they will give me all the scoop. Anyone in the St. Louis area or close by have a finished Morton building up that I could stop by and take a look at or give me your experience with them, thanks:beer:

Marv,
My Morton sales person took me by a couple morton buildings. One was new and the other 10 years old. I didn't get to talk to the owners, but the getting to see the buildings was a big help.

Good luck.

Marv,

My 24' x 32' Morton Building has been up for a year now, and I've had no problems. Morton was a pleasure to work with. Not the cheapest building you can put up, but you get what you pay for. Construction time, including interior was six days...Built by company employees, not sub-contracted out. Overhead doors and concrete were handled by sub-contractors, but through Morton. If I have any complaints, I go to Morton with it. They were responsible for the whole job and took responsibility for complete project. I highly recommend them. I don't live local to you, so here's a few pictures.

Good luck,

Steve

Steve,
Thanks for the input. Met with the salesperson today and yes I was impressed. He is going to send me a formal qoute all inclusive by the weekend. They do seem a little higher but the quality seems worth it! Thanks for the pics also! What was the cost for the finished interior? Also I see you have a asphalt driveway, any damage to it from the concrete truck?

Hi Marv , my Brother works for Morton in Michigan so this is not a plug that will benefit him but , he has been there 12 years and some of the buildings he has shown me have been just incredible . I believe they still warranty their buildings for 50 years and I believe they stand by this since has done replacements of full metal roof coverings on a couple of buildings that were over twenty years old. Wish I could afford one .Have your rep show you more of them and ASK FOR CUSTOMER phone numbers and go talk to these folks .They will be glad to tell you the truth. G'luck .swaZZie

Marv,

The finished interior including insulation and interior walls added about 25% to the job costs.
The concrete truck delivered 11 yards for the floor...I put down some planking before, but I had damage, mostly due to the fact that the driveway was deteriorated anyway.... re-paving next year if all goes well.

Morton is the big name in pre-engineered wood buildings, but not the only name. In my area, a lot of people just refer to that type of building as a "Morton Building" regardless of who actually built it.

You might want to see if you can get FBI Buildings to get you a quote. They are based out of Remington, Indiana (roughly have way between Chicago and Indy. We deal with them on commercial projects from time to time. One of my friends also had them build a building on their farm a couple of years ago and are very pleased with the results.

I just noticed that FBI has a interactive building planning tool on their website. Might have to play with that a little bit.

Congrats on getting a bid!

Mortons are very nice buildings, but I think they are a little over priced IMO...

When I was in the planning stages for my garage, I drove nearly an hour to my closest Morton dealer in Ashland Kentucky. I spent a couple of hours on their lot examining the quality of their products and was very impressed! I made an appointment for their salesman to visit my property to do an actual "on site and grade" estimate for a 30 x 45 building. The Morton salesman spent a least two hours on my lot as he set grade stakes and made sketches and notes of the requirements for the garage. He left with a smile, handshake and promised to call me within two days with the final cost figure for the project. It's been nearly three years and I still have not heard from him!!!! Needless to say, I had a local contractor "stick-build" my garage to match my house. I could not believe that Morton spent the time to visit my property and never bothered to do the follow-up contact with the final price and schedule the job. They have a nice product.....they just didn't want to sell one to me! Hopefully, you will have better luck.

Marv,

Last fall I had 50 x 72 pole shed put up. I got bids from Morton, Cleary and Northland. I also got a bid from an indepnedant who puts up pole sheds.

I would call Morton the caddilac of pole sheds. I looked at my neighbors Morton. Nicely built, nice features, but built with gold plated nails. I leaned on all 4 bids and Morton was by far the most costly. Morton salesman who came out was very professional.

I spoke with the Northland salesman and he mailed me his bid and brochures of their building options. Was cheeper than Morton, but higher than Cleary.

The independent was cheeper than the three brand names, but wanted 65% of the final cost up front. I felt a little uneasy about this. Found out later he uses Menards metal siding and materials.

I went with the Cleary building. They had my shed done in two weeks. Looks great. I called the concrete guys lastnight to come out and start their work cement the entire floor. Can't wait for that to be done!!!

Depending upon your use and location, I highly recomend the clear evelights. I went down one side with clear and the other with the opaque (35% light blockage).

A couple things I didn't think about. Be sure to tell the salesman you don't want to find any nails on the ground. Tell the crew to sweep with a magnet perodically. Also, Cleary requires the homeowner to remove all leftover materal and debris from the building process (metal banding material, leftover wood and metal)

Good luck and enjoy the process.

The interactive site on the FBI Building site was awesum! They also look like a very reputable Company. Do they also build in the St. Louis Mo. area?
