So my normal side hustle is stained glass but I have dabbled a bit with mosaic work over the years and then got three commissioned projects recently and thought I'd share.

One is for a kitchen backsplash. The couple went to Barcelona and picked up this plate in the Gaudi style and asked me to do a backsplash of half of it. I did it using stained glass and after cutting the shapes, I "slumped" the pieces in the kiln at 1325 degrees to soften the edges to give them more of a ceramic tile look. They installed it and sent me pictures and I think it turned out really good.

Here is the original plate...

Here is the layout and putting it on the mesh...

Then here it is installed in the kitchen...

Then had another customer wanting a polar bear mosaic and if that turned out good they wanted me to do a wolf. They sent me a box of tile that they were using for their bathrooms and I just broke up the tiles with a hammer and chisel (for the smaller pieces). I was super limited to the colors and had to find shading within the broken pieces to make it look realistic. They have yet to install them into their bathrooms so no installed pics but here are some pictures of them before sending them.

Here are the bears...

And she was happy with them and I did this wolf...

Very nice! Stained glass and mosaics are two skills I’ve always wanted to learn. Classic and beautiful.
