Most hated carpenter bench

I actually enjoy the hate I get for this bench. LET ME BE CLEAR! This was heading to the garbage before I got it. It had No vises, base, over 500 drill holes and the worst rot on the top I have ever seen. It couldn’t be planed flush it would have needed large sections cut out. I bought it because I wanted to see how different techniques worked because I do restorations on these benches. Last this is my bench so I didn’t do it make money.

I like it the way it is as well. I will be remaking the base as the scrap wood isn’t holding up and needs to be oak I think.

Well loved. I like the mercator projection map on the right hand vise in the 2nd and 3rd pix. At least it won't be a showroom vise, where it never gets used and never gets a scratch. Did you use any metal fasteners in the 2nd to last image, or only glue to hold it together?

That would have been the perfect canvas to do something like this with. It's his regular bench, so it sees some use.

It’s actually the Great Lakes but very similar. It’s not geographically correct but I didn’t intend it to be as it wouldn’t look right. I it already had the original bolts which were tightened but the wood was so dry rotted I couldn’t tighten them much.

Well now that you say that, obviously. Us west coasters will often miss those references, even though my daughter lives near one, and the wife grew up by another.

Thanks, I like it. It’s a play on a Japanese technique called Kintsugi. I have been working on another one that will used epoxy mixed with reclaimed gold leaf at some point.

Not paint It’s a two part epoxy with about 6 different blue pigments.

Yeah happens I have brought and restored 50+ of them over the years. I would suggest checking estate sales they pop up for reasonable prices from time to time

Yes, No, Maybe where you are, but in fifty years of estate sales in the Spokane area, I've never seen one for sale.

Don't hate that at all, I love the epoxy color. Plus it's hard to hate a bench with an Emmert vise on it.
