Found this video searching for something else and was shocked how awesome this guy's invention is. I wonder if it will ever be produced, even for a small market.

Re: most ingenious/versitile tool?

I can see a huge potential in this (or something similar) for folks that ride or race dirt bikes cross country.

Weight savings is important, multiple functionality in one easy to pack tool is pretty appealing.

I don't know if this specific tool is just right, but the concept would be well received by a huge segment of the dirt riding market

For a semi all in one tool to keep from lugging a tool box in and out of the truck, I'd pass.

Re: most ingenious/versitile tool?

I could see this being pretty awesome, or becoming just another gimmick depending on how they get it manufactured,

If they get a reputable tool company to make it for them in a high-quality form, it will probably be pretty decent.

But if they get made by a company that just wants to maximize their profits from the masses, and produces them as barely passable junk, it'll just turn into another gimmick tool.

It's all in the marketing too. Like if they are high quality, get some respect from people who know tools, etc, it will do well.

Or they can go be a cheap chinese, 'as seen on TV' tool that some bimbo who doesn't even know what a 'tool' is try to tell you how amazing it is.

They'll cut in with black and white clips of people using other tools, fumbling around and dropping them on their toes. to try and show the superiority of this one.

Aside from all this, I could see this as a great salvage yard tool (for anything but suspension stuff). It's always such a pain to bring around a bunch of stuff with me there

I admire the ingenuity and design that goes into a tool like that but I'm just not much of a fan of the whole do-all tool theme. Beyond a basic Leatherman-type multitool, most of the do-all gizmos just require too much "fiddling around" to suit me. I'd rather just pack a small kit.

I like it too, but I also wonder who wants to fiddle with a multi tool for anything other than those most simple of jobs.

Yes, I could have used it when my 1998 Malibu sliced a coolant hose and left me on the side of the road, but even this tool wouldn't be able to cut the nut that was spinning around in the plastic insert under the battery tray, preventing me from getting to the hose.

I know nothing of machining, but it also looks cost prohibitive to make. How many does one have to sell to break even?

You're very close. The hammer was probably one of the very first products of the most versatile tool ever known.

I'd have to say that it's the lowly human hand with it's opposed thumb and precise motor skills. With it, you can build more and better tools.

Or, you could make cave paintings in France, perform a heart transplant, or build the Saturn V rocket.

Hands down, it's the human hand. There's no contest.

To me, this is the ultimate emergency tool and the multi-tool to kill all other multi tools. Just think of the gimmicky **** out there that is in production and sells.

It would have to be quality made, of course. But even if it were made in taiwan, if it were of the decent quality come to be expected of say, gearwrench and the import craftsman stuff it would be worthwhile. I can see it being widely received. Even just in the motorcycle or off road tool market it could potentially become a very popular item.

I'd buy one to throw under the seat or in my tankbag on the bike. Not if it was made poorly though, I'd be glad to pay a little more if its well made.

Re: most ingenious/versitile tool?

Tool likely went into production in some Chinese factory right after the video went up on youtube.

Already spent $30k, ouch, not getting a lot of bang for the buck.

Re: most ingenious/versitile tool?

I agree that this is something that would probably do really well in the dirt bike/ motorcycle market.

My question is, how ergonomic would it be to use? Because you know they would never market it as the quick emergency tool. It would be the tool to replace your entire garage full of tools tool.

Like strnjss said, I can see the black and white clips of people fumbling around tools. Then they'll show a Snap On box with a big red x over it. "Never again will you have to deal with thousands of dollars in tool expenses and hassles!"

my road bag has a 1/4" kit; 10 in 1 screwdriver, adjustable wrench and a pair of channellocks.....all told $40 all the machine work in that one is gonna be a fortune

Re: most ingenious/versitile tool?

From what I can see in the video, it looks pretty good; but then I've always been a sucker for gadgets.

I can't find anything about it on the web other than that video. :headscrat

If he's looking for investors, he should put up a website so people could get a good look at it, but he's probably afraid the chi-coms will get a bead on it and start pumping out lead copies. :(

I guess If your Racing mtorcycles and need something just in case its great but by no means the best way to go (do you really need a can opener or crappy file that wont cut)...I Guess Grabbing a box doesn't really bother me and I already have a leatherman
