Sharing from another forum. His car build is nuts too.

That's pretty cool, maybe just a little carried away here but cool. I'd like to see more pics of that.

I tried three times and deleted everything I wrote. Apparently I don't have anything nice or constructive to say. I kind of feel bad, but oh well.

I've often wondered what the proper motion ratio for a welding cart was. :spit:
He should have put the money that he spent on the cart into purchasing a better welder. JMHO.

For anything outside of a smooth shop floor, I'd much rather have your cart.

I can't believe people are knocking this thing. Of course it's overdone, but who cares? I just appreciate the skill, design, and art that went into it.

I don't "need" a huge drawer FULL of just different types of pliers in my 15K Snap On toolbox, but I sure like it!

If I had the time and money I would probably do something cool. maybe not like this but, I feel it to be a little impractical for myself and what I need out of a welder and its cart. Very cool though. I want to see the finished product.

Feel free to hate me, but what an amazing waste of time and material. He could have been making some other invention (vehicle) where that level of style and expense and time is appropriate. A welding cart is not that place. It would make more sense as a BBQ grill cart, or a wheel barrow, drinks cart, whatever.

I dig it. In all honesty, for something that knows what they are doing, it doesn't take that long. I'm sure the parts were all CNC cut, so it's basically just prep and assemble. Not that I'm saying it's any less impressive. It's not all that much in materials and parts. Especially if you have drops around from a full time fab shop. Then it's just free time.

I agree that it's very overdone, but probably the coolest welding cart I've ever seen, and a great conversation piece.

Wonder how much those coilover shocks cost??

I'm still reading his thread about his Celica, I was also wondering about that, here's what he had to say about the coils at page 77...

For the coilovers, It was convenient to use some cheap generic mountain bike coilovers from Amazon. You have to love Amazon Prime! I had chosen these from the beginning, and their free length and stroke were taken into account when designing the suspension. The springs that came with them were a massive 450lb/in, the smallest i could find in a coilover that worked well with the design. I decided to also purchase a 36" long spring from McMaster with a spring rate closer to 150 lbs/in when cut to length.

Soo just short mountain bike coils and he replaced the springs with softer springs.

To each his own. If the guy provides high end work for customers, then why not outfit your own shop with the same talent. I'm sure someone touring his shop will not think twice about having work done there.
I have alway kept my service truck and POV's clean and tricked out. I believe it sends a message on pride and professionalism.
I like it!

Overdone, sure.

But a waste of time, no. First its his time, not yours or anybody else's.

Im sure he loves the challenge. Its likely a exercise in doing trades he hasnt perfected (CAD, suspension engineering, etc...). He mentions getting his "welding skills" back up to par. That and the creative process to figure out those moving parts, and executing is never a waste.

Tinkering is the ultimate creative outlet.

I my opinion, this is a terrible argument. It would be like saying "why paint the Mona Lisa? Couldn't that material be better used to paint part of the kitchen? Or the time better used to pick up dog **** in the yard?"

404, I'm with you. Whatever. There are bigger problems in this world that need solving. To the OP - redirect your energy and talents where they are truly needed.

Im trying to talk myself out of using my snap on kra 40 inch roll cab for a cart, but at 7 drawers I can have all my welding and metal working tools in one cart. Makes more sense to sell it but not as cool :)
