I have an Ariens that has been reliable with minimal maintenance. Really just use it 3-4 times per winter though. Electric start is sweet.
I like my Ariens, too. Since it always starts on one or two pulls, I have yet to try the electric start. I will save it for the day that it doesn't kick right over. Hopefully, never. One reason I bought it is the cast iron gear case. That is an upgrade from the aluminum gear cases found on cheaper machines.

Thanks!

I have all the schematics. I found a zip file years ago online with a bunch of manuals. When my father gave me the blower I sent them to the print shop at work and had them put in a binder to keep out in the garage. Comes in handy.

If you look at the control cable schematics, I don't have parts 11-18 and I think that might be part of my problem, but without having seen them put together (father had broken the cable also and the guy who "fixed' it for him did it half assed.) So I don't have anything to go on besides the schematic.

Are you adjusting the throttle (actually more of a governor) as you're blowing snow? I just move the lever to full speed, start it, and when I'm done, I move the lever to minimum which ground out the spark too. I can't see ever wearing out a throttle cable.

Subaru is closing down production of their industrial products division, which includes Suburu engines for lawn and garden applications . They will be done by September 2017.

Yamaha picked up some of the larger v-twin commercial lawn care engine product lines, but you won't see Subaru engines in new snow blowers.

So Robin is effectively going away? That's sad, they'd been around for a long time. Guessing they couldn't be bothered to compete with China.

Hi there, I am writing you from the great snowy north, Canada. I found a 1997 Honda HS928 from a build dat of October 1997, barely used, was a machine at someone's cottage home and just left in their shed since they did not go there a lot, used 5 times according to them, I really want it but I wonder what is the off season price on a unicorn like this, joystick control with battery electric start.. thanks!

Bought an Ariens 25 years ago at Home Depot. Paid almost $1000 for it. Brought it out today, put fresh gas in it, primed the carb. It started on the first try. Oil change every year,
new spark plug every 5 years. Seems to be a good purchase.
