You mean in their diagram, where its shown in use with a jumpered existing 3-way? The upper wire in the diagram is the line that's switched by the motion sensor, and the bottom wire is for the 3-way switch to override it. The 3-way becomes an override switch.

I recently tried to use one of those and had to give up. Maybe it would have worked at the powered end of the circuit but that was not where I wanted the motion/dimmer switch. There are 2 or 3 ways to wire a 3 way switch. I am not an electrician so I look at a book and follow the directions. Maybe a different method would have allowed the switch to work.

turns out the instructions packed with the switch have a lot more info than what's posted on the web. there's several scenarios that can be wired up . turns out the first one was defective for me & had to be replaced. the handle for the 3 position function switch was broken
