Motion sensor fixture issue

I have an outdoor dual bulb motion sensor over my garage in the peak of the roof. Ever since it was installed I have had the issue.

It works for months and then stop. The red light on the sensor works but the bulbs don’t light up.

I have had a licensed electrician replace this 2x in 5 years.

When the power goes out in neighbor it fixes it if it’s out and vice versa. I’ve tried throwing the breaker and no go.

Any ideas ? I am getting ready to start with a new sparky and replace it.

Do you have the instructions ? Some of those lights have a feature when wired through a switch that allows you to turn them on manually. Maybe that is why it is messing up ?

In my experience there are 2 kinds of motion fixtures, 1: you put it up and turn it on and it works forever and you never have to touch it. 2: Junk.

There is no in between.

Yup, got a couple live forever and a couple short lived. Same for other fixtures, 500 qtz lights. Got 1 or 2 with hundreds or more hrs over 30 years and a bunch didn't do anything but ruin a new lamp in a couple hours.

I have three of these and they work flawlessly. The price has dropped drastically since I bought the first one so don’t let the reasonable price scare you.
They are die cast aluminum, no cheap plastic ****.

Yes mine is wired through a switch. And when I turn the switch off the red sensor indicator light will not read motion. And when the switch is on the red light reads motion but the bulbs do not illuminate.

I did order 2 new aluminum fixtures. And will be calling a sparky to come check out and replace both front and rear units. My fear unit functions but the hoods that go over the bulbs are no longer attached to the base so I am just replacing with new. To hard to get a sparky out. I have a list for him for a few issues around the house at this point. I don’t fool with electricity.

I was thinking about this yesterday. It seems that some of the lights we have had, needed a 24 hour/light/dark cycle to reset themselves.

I had the same problem for years, always replacing them, I asked the question on here and several electricians said they only use RAB. I replaced the sensors with these and haven't had a problem since.
