Motion sensor lighting under loft

I have a loft in a section of my garage, where I keep my tool chest. Problem is, it is kind of dark under there, and most available light is blocked by my body, so it is hard to make out socket and wrench sizes.

I've thought of adding lighting, like a couple small clamp lights, triggered by a motion sensor. So the order would be something like outlet, to extension cord, to sensor switch, then the lamps. I'd rather not hard wire anything.

Attached is a pic of the space in my garage. You can see the receptacle box and joists for the loft. I can put the sensor under the header, and the lamps a little further back.

Any advice on the type of sensor I need, or the lights that would be best for this? Thanks.

Costco LED 4ft tube-style fixture, pull chain + plug into the outlet?

Or, google "occupancy sensor". It is meant to be hard wired so you'd have to add something like a 4" square box with a SO cord and male plug for power.

Most hardware stores sell the motion sensor kit for standard outdoor motion lights. They are very simple to wire and you wouldn't need a box for it but i would use a standard square box to make mounting and concealing the wire connections safe.

Also with the box that allows proper wire clamps to keep everything held together properly. One could also put a duplex outlet streight into the box for plugging the lamps into.

Amazon has a several choices of battery motion lights. Mr. Beams

I use several around the house .......one in the garage where the steps are dark even in the day time.
Have two in the shop where I can walk in the lights turn on and light the box to grap a tool .......with out turning on the lights. Batteries last a loooong time.
