I just recently put a cooper motion sensing switch in a room that lit with florescent lights. The motion sensor see me but doesn't turn all the way on. The light flicker and don't light all the way. At the switch turn it from auto to on and the light come on right. The load on the switch is within the ratings on the switch. I bought another on but have not installed it to see if that fixes it. Does the motion sensor not make a compete connection when it triggers, is this a normal problem. Its rated 500w light and 400w florescent.

Ballast information is documented in the package, it's not designed for the ballasts you are using. You'll need a different switch. It seems they don't support CFLs nor the newer electronic ballasts/T8 bulbs.

This is an older thread that meets my issue as well. Can anyone make a recommendation of a motion switch for fluorescents?

Here is more specific to what I want to do. I have an attached garage with four 4ft fluorescents connected to a switch in the laundry room on the other side of the garage door entering the house. I want to put in a motion switch that turns on all the lights when someone comes into the garage, opens the garage door, etc and then turn them off after a period of time. I also want to be able to bypass the motion sensor in case I am out in the garage and want the lights on for an extended period of time. Suggestions?

I would check with your local electrical supply house, not HD or other big box. Those standard occupancy light switches are being used all over in commercial establishments with CFL and flourescents. They're available...just gotta find em.
