The bearings are going in the motor. It is a 120V, 1/3hp, 1750rpm common motor except...it has a 2 position toggle switch mounted in the housing that reverses it's direction. I have seen several motors that would work except for the reversing switch. I have no clue about how this would be wired and haven't seen any w/ this built in. Would I be best off to go to a shop to buy the motor so they could install the switch? Or is there something else I should know?

If the motor still works, why not just replace the bearings? There is probably an electrical supply store or bearing supply house in your area that can provide them.

The motor can be rebuilt as needed. Things were built better, for the most part then, and not subjected to the disposable culture we currently live in.

Post up some pics of the motor.
If it has regular ball bearings I'd just pull the motor apart and replace them.
If it has oilers/oil holes, then it's a bushing/plain bearing motor which might make rebuilding a little more involved.

Back in the 70s - 80s most common motors had the extra wire inside to reverse direction. Cheap Imported Modern **** typically doesn't (?). A true 1940's motor would have Bronze Bushings which can be pulled out rather easily, then replaced.
I have a drum switch mounted on my OLD southbend that reverses direction instead of reaching for a switch on the motor.
Maybe you should be thinking of that instead of trying to find a motor with a reversing switch mounted on it.

Could use this as a chance for an upgrade. Get a little 3 phase motor and a vfd. Then you'd have forward, reverse, and and infinite variable speed.
