Motor oil saving rail?

Any of you guys ever seen one of those rails you hang on your wall that has ports to attach about half a dozen quart size motor oil bottles upside down to it? It lets the remaining oil drip down into a bottle attached right side up at one end. I remember seeing someting like this in a catalog years ago, but haven't been able to find one now that I could use it. Thanks in advance.

Only about $7, but I use gallon jugs now, so its a $2 plastic pan and something to hold the jug upside down. Actually $2.44 plastic pan, stopped at walmart and bought a couple more tonight.

For the hold it upside down part, eyelet on a string I screw into the jug bottom might work to hang it over the pan.

How about puting either screws or nails through a board and just pushing the bottom of the bottles up through them so they hang there over the pan?

I've heard the amount of oil that drips out of 6 bottles over a few hours is substantial. I figure its an easy way to keep a couple oil squirter cans full.

I was just about to ask if anyone has acutally used one of these and how much oil you actually save. I figure I would need to fill about 3 or 4 bottles to offset the $10 cost.

it would make sense for a oil change shop I don't see how it benefit for home use at all.. Buy a plastic window planter box from walmart for $4.88, drill a hole and stick those qt bottles there.

I have a 5 qt ice cream "tub" with a flat lid that I used a hole saw to cut holes in, about 1", 5 or so holes. I turn up my bottles and let them drip till I have more bottles to put in there, days or weeks later.

Another environmental concern is that plastic bottles with the lids screwed on don't compress in landfills (unless they happen to get punctured), so I always throw the drained out bottles in the trash without the caps, the caps go in loose.

I recycle all my plastic anyhow, but some "drip oil" for the lawn equipment sounds good.

the idea is not to save money. It's to not waste any oil. Preserve the environment.

The enviroment was my first concern when I thought about one of these. It's just that the $10 would come out of my poor college student beer money. At this point of my life every unnecessary expense needs to justified in this manner.

Beer needs to be "recycled" too.

I used to have a poster showing that, kinda disgusting, but funny after a few.

Oil drip thing is good because ...

Its free oil, and useful.
Its better to drain the bottles before recycling.
Oil left in the bottles makes a hazardous mess in the trash/recycle.

Just tonight I mentioned to my brother about fabing up something of this very nature. It would come in handy at my house. If I were to change oil in 3 of our vehicles at the same time I could save some $$ on oil. Race car 9 qts, my dually 8 qts, brothers diesel 10 qts. We use the same oil in all 3, Rotella 15w-40

I thought only used oil was hazardous? I always heard clean oil was not a problem. I think it had something to do with heavy metals like lead and zinc that are used in engine bearings that get disolved in the used oil?

New oil have additives such as zinc, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, molybdenum etc, nasty stuff. I have seen a Shell tech guy that touched oil all the time, now has severe dermatitis. Used oil has so much more nasties.

I collect the empties all the time at work, I just use a funnel and drain them one by one into a quart container until its full. It takes quite a few empties, but I now change my oil with Mobil 1 for the cost of an oil filter.
