I have a down draft hot air furnace. I need ti oil the motor, it has 2 oil ports. I can get to 1 fairly easily with the motor in place in the cabinet. The other port is impossible to reach with the use of magnetized lights and mirrors. the space is impossible to fit my hand in and manipulate anything. I may end up just removing the motor from the cabinet. Absent removing the motor I have considered creating a inspection hole in the cabinet directly opposite this motor area to access straight into the top of the motor. What are the drawbacks of this idea. I know that some of the air coming into the cabinet will now not be going thru the filters.

Create your inspection hole, oil the motor, then use metal foil tape and tape a piece of sheet metal over the hole so its removable next time.

It does not. It is wired, bolted into the wheel and dropped into a slot. Pulling it up and out with the wheel assembly is the only way to get it out.

Take a close look at the wheel/fan. You may find that it needs cleaning anyway. Over time the blades build up with dirt and need to be cleaned for best performance. Most are easily removable.
