I have had a Craftsman belt disc sander tucked away for many years waiting to find the correct era motor for it. after searching and searching i have recently kinda given up and have purchased a old delta motor at the local Re store this morning that will work fine. what i need to know is what size pulley is on the motor? i searched but not much luck so far.

thanks

Need to know what your final rpm is, input rpm, and the sander pulley size to calculate motor pulley size.

He don't have an old Pulley to measure.

I usually ran the same size pulley that's at the sander on my motor assuming it's a 1725 RPM motor you have?
Or you could kick it up a little bit maybe about a quarter inch bigger pulley then is on the sander.
no but there's infinitely more data to be provided than has been so far.

I found this sander at a garage sale for free . the old man who gave it to me said that it needed upper bearings in the upper roller and he could not find them. i went on the Sears parts web site and ordered a set and installed them. at the same sale he offered me the motor for $1.50.... and of course being stupid i left without it so i do not have a pulley but after more research it looks like motor pulley depending on what i am doing can match the motor pulley and work just fine for wood working. 1750 motor is what i have.

thanks

You mean the motor pulley size can match the sander spindle pulley size?
Any problems installing the bearings?

yes. the bearings went in very easily. after i drug this machine home i went down the street to the Bearing Inc store and the guy at the counter measured them and the size of the bearings for the roller did not exist... so i went to sears.com and bought them there. most likely not a option any more.

I would suggest that you research belt sander belt speed. You will find that belt speed is in the 3000 ft/min. With that information you work backwards using the diameters of the belt drum and pulleys. There are calculators online to use.

OP, you are overthinking it. Find or buy a small pulley, put it on the motor, buy a belt and use the sander.
