I am wondering what motor temperatures everyone's air compressors are running at after prolonged use (more than 30 minutes running). And also what a "safe" temperature is.

I have 3 and they all vary based on age and prior operating environment.

#1 is a GE 2HP ODP circa 1995 that will get up to 199F after a while
#2 is a Marathon 2HP ODP circa 2003 that gets up to 166F after a while (same conditions as #1)
#3 is a GE 2HP TEFC from the 1960's that hovers around 125F after a while (same conditions as #1)

I am thinking the TEFC motors run cooler the longest because they don't ingest the "dirty air" like the ODP ones do... they all sit in my garage where I use air grinders and the air is filthy.

A previous used compressor I purchased was used by a painter and its 3HP motor would get to 200F in no time... even driving a little 2HP pump. But you could visibly see the windings were filled with the same grit that killed his 3HP pump. And the newest one I had owned was a 2HP ODP that rarely got over 130F.
