Needed something to hold the engine from my XR500 while I worked on it. It's a combination of ideas I found on GJ and Google

Dude, that's slick. A little late, but now that I've seen it, I might have made it wider and height adjustable so that I could spin a completed motor. But that looks great. You need to call the cops, I'm stealing this idea.

That's so cool. How do you spin it and adjust for length for other engines? Do you plan to make a couple and use for spare engine storage too?

At first, I thought it was waist tall and big enough to mount a chassis. Window perspective tricked me. I was 14 last time I tore down a motorcycle.

The top bracket tubes have about 3 inches fore and aft movement as well as pivot inside the head tubes, they are cinched down by the T bolt. The mounting tabs slide on the bracket to accommodate the width of the engine mounting points. The range of possible adjustment I think should accept most small engines.

Just curious. Wouldn't the engine be in the chassis for any work that can be done on this stand? Top-end, clutch, stator, etc. Just saying you cant split the cases while its on the stand. As a tech I'm just trying to picture how or when I would use it. Very cool idea and execution. Just trying to think of the practicality of it for myself in a shop situation.

I guess newer bikes are more technician friendly because the only way to get the cylinder off on an XR500R is to remove the engine.

Pretty nice. I got by for years with a 2x4 box about 14" square. Could flip any engine any which way.

Very nice. I have a fully adjustable K&L engine stand that is based on the same theory but with a bit more flexibility/adjustability.

Nice job.
