Motorcycle Garage Project

When my wife and I purchased our house three years ago we knew the garage was too small for either of our cars. I actually told her during the showing "It looks like I've got a dedicated motorcycle garage". The house was built in 1955 and has a small single garage on the first level. I've never understood the small garages common in homes from that era versus the size of the cars from that era.

As is usually the case you want to make a new home "yours" so other in-home projects and landscaping dominated our time and budget the first few years. I did have a new insulated garage door installed immediately after moving in because the existing door was so old it did not have a beam style auto-reverse safety devise. I have three children so that was a priority. Other than that the garage hasn't been touched yet.

I'm now ready to take on the Motorcycle Garage Project I've been planning since moving into the house. First thing was to remove some DIY built-in cabinets and shelves the previous owner had put against the back wall. After that I cleaned the block and floor to prepare it for paint.

Here is the blank canvas. The size is 11'.5" X 24'.5".

Absolutely. I just thought I'd mention that I've watched your single and Dubber's single evolve so if anything I do looks familiar.....

Seriously though, some of the garages on here are larger than my house so it's hard to imagine your garage's potential when you're looking at those spaces, even large doubles are hard to compare. Watching garages like yours and Dubber's come together were very motivating.

So I got started on the paint this week. I'm using the Behr Basement and Masonry Waterproofer. It came down to the Behr product vs. the Drylok product and after reading the customer reviews from people that have used both I went with the Behr.

I went with what I thought was a light gray called Nimbus in the Behr brochure however once on and dry it has a slight blue hue to it. It's hard to see in the photo but when the natural light hits it through the windows you can see the blue in the tint.

On the up-side I'm burning through the 5 gallon bucket pretty quick and it looks like it will take all of it to do the first coat so when I get more for the 2nd coat it will be the proper shade of gray or possibly white.

It took a little longer than I expected but the first coat of the waterproofer is on. I still need to do some of the corners and edges but it definitely makes a difference.

Thank you. The '93 Ducati and the '96 MG are one owners. I purchased them both new. The '93 MG is my newest one. I am the fourth owner.

I'll need to make the most of my space if I add any more to the fleet.

OOOohhhhh,.....serious Guzzi lusting here. I've never owned a Guzzi, but always loved them. I have three BMW flat twins and a bunch of other bikes. Only Italian bike I ever had was an early 60's Ducati 250 Diana I got for an electric motor trade. The piston was rusted into the barrel, took a lot of ATF, block of wood, and a big mallet to break it loose. I traded it off again before ever getting it running. Wish I had kept it now of course.

Good luck on the cycle garage, I'll be watching for the decorating theme. As far as space for more bikes, maybe consider a lift system to store some bikes up off the floor to leave enough space for bikes below. I'm building a storage lift in my new garage to get the snowmobile and snowblower off the floor so bikes can store underneath it.
