Scooter parking only

I have been a lurker for a little bit, jealous mostly....living in a rental.

Finally got a place of my own with a 2 car + garage in a drive out kind of condo. the + section is about 11x10 space that I have made my scooter den (mancave) It fits a 47in tv; recliner and BMW 650 sport scooter (fastest in north america...Verified!!).
I recently found a Kendon lift on craigslist that fits in the area....

This is just the beginning.....insert evil laughter here, as my scooter and I will take over the Wor,,,,rest of the garage.

Those YSR50's are a blast. I worked at a Yamaha shop in the late 1980s and we used to race them around our parking lot after work.

First post .

I'm a tradesman , ticketed in more than one trade ........... I'm old

This garage was here when I bought this house , the inside was bare and un heated .

It has been insulated , drywalled , painted and an overhead unit heater installed to enable work to happen in my spare time , year round .

That was 15 years ago.

Here's my workshop , sort of a hobbies gone wild theme , where ideas come to life. There's nothing fancy , no tiled floor , no designer paint scheme or matching cabinets. What there is here is , projects involving welding , machining , cylinder head work , differentials being overhauled , gear swaps , motorcycles being built and repaired.

Gearhead88 - welcome and I love your shop. Tons of tools to support your hobby, which you obviously enjoy. We would love to see before and after pictures of the garage!

Thank's for the compliments guy's.

Silly me , I did not take any pictures of the garage before I started finishing the walls.

It's a 24' x 24' on the outside.

I'll post up a few more pics from time to time .

Nice workshop. I like it.

I know exactly what you mean. My shop doesn't have tile floors or matching cabinets either, it is a real working shop where **** gets done, nothing more. But it is my little place of heaven. I love working in my shop and by the looks of it so do you.

Welcome to the forum.

Ahhhh... S&S shovelheads on top of the bench, a case of Kokanee under it...nice. Like the shovel powered bike....year?
Nosy me also noticed the compliment of Craftex equipment in your shop...mind if I ask you what you think of them...how they are holding up. I know that they are priced quite competitively, if not down right cheap.

Thank's Dan

Those S&S heads were new in those pics , I did a bit of port clean up on them and machined them for compression release valves before putting them on . The Super glide is a 1981 FXEF .
The Craftex machinery is suited well to the type of stuff I do and is holding up well . This equipment shares feature with Grizzly branded products . I did a lease to buy in 2004 , the deal consisted of - the 12 x 36 lathe , the knee mill and a tooling package . The mill is ok but I'd go a different route if I did it again . The lathe is pretty much your basic Chi com machine , there are several other machines available that are just like it .The mill drill sitting in the middle , came later , a friend wanted it out of his garage , " it was taking up too much space for something that never gets used ". I had a Force 3 in one before , it was actually a nice little machine , as long as it was used within it's limitations , I liked it and sometimes miss it. The Sioux valve grinder is a great machine to have around , I've got the seat grinder too , all of it is in real nice shape , that stuff has been here for 12 years , I was lucky to find it in such good condition , I don't think meatheads have ever laid hands on it.

I thought the same, Craftex=Grizzley, vice versa.
All looks pretty good, Im starting to think about purchasing some equipment in the near future...I cant see being able to use the ones at work lasting forever.:D
I acquired a sioux valve and seat cutter a while back, but it had **** for pilots. Any suggestions for supplier?
Take care.

Sioux was bought out by Snap on , the plant in Iowa was shut down , operations moved elsewhere and downsized , I'm not sure about the whole story . Getting parts for specific machines may be a challenge if repairs are needed , getting pilots and stones n' stuff isn't too bad , try Goodson......

http://www.goodson.com/Pilots/

There are a couple of common sizes on the upper portion of the pilot , .375" and .385" that Sioux sold in the past.

I have bought a bunch of pilots over the years from a few different places , ebay was one of them . There's a place in London ? Ontario too , they sell a range of automotive engine reman tools and supplies ,duh .... I can't remember the name right now.

Would you mind giving some details on your lift table?

It's old , it's out of a motorcycle shop that went broke about 35 years ago. I believe it was made in Europe but I'm not sure. The lift table that Harbour freight and Princess Auto sells are a clone of this one. The Chinese are known for reverse engineering and building knock offs. I had this one all apart about ten years ago to paint it and rebuild the hydraulics . Funny thing with that is , I ordered a rebuild kit to reseal the hydraulics , the kit came from K&L supply and was for one of these knock offs. Most of the kit was useable except the big seal for the piston in the bore of the lift cylinder , it was sized wrong. Not a big deal , I made a new piston on the lathe so I could use the seals that came in the rebuild kit. I'd like to get a Handy air lift some time , they are a bit more stout than this old one and the capacity is much higher.

I don't think you can go wrong with the Handy. I have had my Handy air lift table for about 15 years now and love it. I needed a second one about 10 years ago and decided to try the Cycle Pro one due to the price being quite a bit less than the Handy and it was just a little longer and wider which was great for the snowmobiles and ATV's that I also worked on at the time. I don't care for the Cycle Pro lift table, but that is just my opinion. It is no where near as smooth in operation as the Handy and I don't care for the diamond plate surface. I prefer the smooth finish of the Handy.

I was ready to sell my Cycle Pro last summer and replace it with a new Handy which the new model is more comparable to the Cycle Pro in size and it also has the drop out rear section which is nice for removing tires, my current Handy is too old for that feature. My son didn't want me to sell the Cycle Pro because he said when he gets a house he wants it. I think I will just keep it until my son gets a place of his own and then I will purchase a new Handy for my second lift table.

Here's a before, during, and after paint job out of my old garage.
100_1081.jpg

Rasit - Did you build the work platform for your MC? It right nice. Do you hoist your bikes up onto it? What are the pipes on the side for, to support extensions? What are the side compartments for are they drawers for storage? Can you share plans for the work platform and your cart next to it?

A couple new additions for the shop.......

My son got me a parts washer for Christmas, so I dropped it into the counter top.

I bought myself a 5 gal ultrasonic cleaner. Now I'm looking for anything to throw in there and clean! :rocker:

Damn you, you keep throwing up pictures of that ultrasonic cleaner and I want one each time. I guess I may have to break down and buy one. You mentioned in another thread that you bought it from ebay I think. What brand is it?

Thanks.

Hey Guys - love following this thread. I've got a couple updated photos of our motorcycle garage. Long winters in Michigan make me itch to get out and ride!

I picked up a little piece of motorcycling history today to add to the motorcycle garage.

Plus a set of very hard to find factory saddlebags too! :willy_nil
