Hello
I’m new to the GJ I live in western Canada, I’m looking at motorcycle lift tables from princess auto which I think are similar to the harbour freight ones in the U.S. I’m trying to decide between the 1000 lbs. or the 1500 lbs table, I’ll be lifting a Harley dyna. Wondering if anyone has any experience with the pro point 1500 lbs lifts how’s the front wheel vice?

Thanks

If those are your only choices, get the heavy-duty one.

Have you looked for a Handy-Lift? That's what you'll probably see in the local H-D dealership. Not-cheap, even used. I bought a couple, one for me & one for my H-D friend (1980 Low Rider he bought new, 1st year of the 80-inch bikes).

Here in south Florida the price for a used one seems to be about $600-700, though I found one functionally-perfect, but tattered from sitting-under an outside carport, that one went for $450. They save your back, if you work on your own bikes, worth every-penny.

The Harbor Freight ones are OK. Some people report problems with the pump but I've had mine for ten years or so and it is fine. Yes, Get the heavier table.
The front clamp is pretty useless. I always use straps from the handlebars to the table and almost always use the center stand.
A motorcycle table is a must have if you work on them. Sure they take up a lot of real estate but I always keep one of my bikes on the table so it is storage as well.

I can't help you out with the lift, I've been looking at both of those myself. Sometimes they go on sale, so you may want to wait until that happens.

And welcome to the forum!

If you're like me you'll find that you use the lift for so much more than motorcycles and you'll want the one with the highest capacity that you can afford. I took the wheel vice off mine 20 years ago and never put it back on. Like TriumphFan is use tie downs and the center stand if the bike has one.

if you are tight on room buy a table that elevates straight vertically, the HF unit does not. I have a Direct Lift table with the side extensions, it is longer than most tables which is perfect for what I use it for. The front wheel vice was never installed and I do not miss it.
By far one of the best tools I have purchased for my shop.

Go with the heavier one. You won't regret it because you will find so many other uses for the lift. Minor mods and additions and you can lift your riding mower, snowthrower, and every other heavy thing you have to a comfortable working height. The wheel vises are generally useless, there are several cost effective options out there. I have a HF lift table that's seen a lot of use over the past, nearly, twenty years with no problems whatsoever. As others have said it does take up some shop floor space but I nearly always have something on it that would otherwise be taking up its own floor space.

I have the HF 1000lb lift table and have an '87 Ultra Glide on it now. It lifts that heavy bike fine.

I have the Harbor Freight 1000 pound lift cart to handle my mobility scooter. I lengthened the frame by moving the front wheels forward and wider. I also added an auxiliary top made from a sheet of 3/4” plywood.

I have found it handy for working on washing machines and clothes dryers in addition to being handy for my four wheel scooter and generator maintenance.

After I started using it I began to wonder how I got along without it for those many years.
